Freeroll Donkey

Nov 3, 2008 10:52 pm Report Abuse

I just want to say that there are some people out there that actually play freerolls to win. Donkeys that play in these things just to all in every hand should be banned from playing freerolls. I know that it isnt any of your money but some people actually play to get somewhere not just to go all in every hand. If people would just actually play true poker and use some skill the freerolls would be a much better tournament. That is why I am glad that I am a member of railbirds.com and the people in those freerolls for the most part use the skill that is needed to be a good poker player.

I stopped caring ages ago.. nowadays i usually play extreme tight till 1/10th is left of the tournament, picking up 1 or 2 all ins from the donks underway. You gotta know when to fold them, even against the donks, and its frustrating to fold your TT against a J3unsuited.

Most important in tournament is NOT chip stack, but advancing in position.

i play freerolls to win....what has that to do with going all in every hand?
stewee45 Nov 3, 2008 11:00 pm
i totally agree. but its not just the freerolls have you ever played in rebuy tourney with them. ive seen these donks rebuy and go all in every hand for the 1st hour. whats the f***ing point. do they think its bingo.

for the rest i agree btw

I hate playing those rebuy tourneys sometime. Like you said people go all in every hand for the first hour and when you call them with AA and get beat by a 9 2 off it really gets to you.

There's nothing you can do about the freeroll donkeys, and to be honest the bleating about them is getting tiresome.

The only thing you can do is put a 'note' on them so that when they show up at your 'first table', Railbirds or elsewhere, you can observe their presence and conserve your chips accordingly until you get a premium hand against them or they donk out.

I just wish these idiots would stick to FT's Poker After Dark freerolls, which are very donkey friendly: there's one starting every 3 minutes!

heck yah!!!! i still play in the public free rolls just to see how far i can out last all the donkeys.. usually make it in the top 500 except for the one i won a couple of weeks ago. but i will say that there is a HUGE difference. i place in the top 100 in the RB free rolls. love it here! trying to get all my friends on here too!

That's poker, even if it is bad poker, regardless if it were not for those players the tournament would take longer and you would not double up as much.

I fully agree with you. I am sick of these dumb players who bored and just want to go all-in every hand.

This is why I play very few hands at the beginning of any freeroll.

Welcome to railbirds.

Yes, if you can learn to get into the money in a freeroll then you will be able to get into the money in real money tournaments of the same size. There's a lot to learn by playing the freerolls that you can use when you invest real money.
KevGuy Nov 4, 2008 1:26 am

people can play THEIR cards however they wish. If they play bad then thats more of an advantage for me.

What Railbirds freerolls have you been playing ?

Its only once you get down to the last 20% that it actually resembles poker.

Sagger Nov 4, 2008 1:54 am

Every freeroll that ive played in you always get a bunch of all in calls at the beginning but I played my first railbird freeroll last night and for once I did not see that all the time. It was a nice change.

BigBelle Nov 4, 2008 2:11 am
Bad play is not confined to freerolls. All you need is someone who doesn't care about the "investment" to see reckless play. Freerolls it is more common at beginning because "investment" = zero. Play gets better later because "investment" is not equal to zero because of the time invested.
