Coming Up for Air from Micro Stakes O8

Oct 23, 2008 8:22 pm Report Abuse

Just a little set up to the story. Like many of us, I play on fooltilt. I actually like the site with all it warts. However, I never keep much of a BR there. I like to keep the real $ for playing live. As a learning tool, online play is invaluable because you see so many more hands in so little time. This is what I am using FTP for: a way to improve my games by trying out different styles of play.

Lately, I have spent a ton of time at the micro stakes Pot Limit O8 tables. My BR was doing ok until this week. Suddenly the tables have been full of folks playing 4 card hold em. Shoving when they have AA or KK and expecting to win, calling everybody who beats them names....you get the picture.

I have been trying to adjust my game to this type of play. When they raise pre-flop, I believed them and would often fold what I should have played. After taking notes voluminous notes on these players, I am finally getting a handle on them.

As mentioned many times before in various blogs, taking notes on players is a must. It will improve your game and stop leaks in the BR.

Finally, a question: How would you play O8 against players like this?

TIA GL on the felts.

Um... at low level o8 you almost need the nuts... I used to 4-7 table O8 tables and just played the nuts... I quit because I just wasn't making to much

I have had success with it in the past however... I usually spew off chips playing hands I shouldn't cause I get bored... yes I get bored 7 tabling lol

I had much more success at 6 player max tables than 9 player games becuase you can open up your hands a little
