to big a bet for the ace no one will call that
I think you should have bet bigger after the flop to find out where you really stood. Betting just 20c made it too easy for players with draws or lower pairs to stick around in hopes of improving, or to bluff at you later.
Your fold against that big bet with an Ace on the board strikes me as correct, but it's quite plausible you were bluffed.
i put him on 10 8
Awful Bet 5.50 into a 1.80 pot,
This is one of two things
A. he had NOTHING
B. he had an ace and was trying to trap on the turn
No way he has a straight, why would he bet it like it like that? he's turning it into bluff.
This is an excellent example of why we need to pay attention at the tables, in this situation the reasoning behind the decision must be made entirely on previous hands played and shown by flocon4.
The Tan Man has Spoken
Depending on the table and the player, you may have been able to put on a hand with a larger raise pre-flop.
IMO, the fold was good. No need in wasting money with the A on board, and for a pot of 1.80, it's not worth the chance even if he's bluffing.
GL on and off the felt...
My guess, since he was BB, he called you with Ace-little. He probed with the flop bet and you called, which gave him pause. So, he checks the turn to see what you do and you check. Now, he figures either his ace might be good or you're weak, so he takes the river card....and pairs his rag.
He doesn't put you on a weak ace, IF you have one, but you may have AK,AQ,AJ,AT and might pay off his 2 pair with your TPTK (many players would do that.)
Good fold as played, but you might have taken it on the flop with a raise. If you'd raised him 3-4x his bet and he called, you'd have to put him on a big ace or aces up. But, you might have taken it away from him representing a big ace. That was your only chance.
