How would you play this?

Oct 23, 2008 1:08 am Report Abuse

I was in the live tournament yesterday. About 30 people to begin with. I am in the final 6, blinds are 1K -2K, none of us have big chip advantage. I am SB and after everyone else folds I call BB with Railbirds card: JhRailbirds card: 7h. . BB checks.

To my surprise I am flopping Railbirds card: 8hRailbirds card: 9hRailbirds card: Th.

Here is what I consider. If BB has nothing and I will check until the end I am not getting anything but BB. If I bet what should my bet be?, honestly have no idea. Go all in making it look that I am just trying to push him? I decided to check first and see what happens. BB checks and there is on the turn Railbirds card: As. I think if he has something, he will call, if not no meter what I do I am not getting more then BB. I went all in - he folded. don't know what he had, did not had any read on him either.

I am sure I did not played right. So what would you do?

i would have checked, let him think you had nothing.. untill the river..

if he did bet, i would have check raised him..

Tough play I maybe would have checked to river then bet small half to 3/4 of pot, some chips are better than none. That would be tough to get paid at unless he had caught something. GL and very nice hand

I would have bet it on the turn like you did, just not all in. Maybe like 9K

should've checked to the river then make a small bet to seem to try and buy the pot. hopefully he hit something or thinks he can bluff you out and re-raise, then you can either re-raise him again and hope he pushes all in to try to get you out or just calls you and you get more chips

Personally I would just ship all my chips in preflop knowing im going to flop a straight flush obviously...

Check the flop, check the turn, and overbet the river, like 1/3 of his chip stack, hoping he thinks you are trying to buy it, and calls, or raises you, then you can go all in !

....Tc....

I would have checked the turn and hoped he would catch something along the way. On the river I would put out a value bet of $2000 hoping to get a call or even better a raised.

The bad thing about flopping such huge hand is that it is hard to get paid off.

It's doubtful your opponant had much but even if he had a pair he could not call an all in with that board.

Pretty hand btw.

Sounds like you are most likely going all in .

But the slow way will get some chips and not scare them off too soon.

i would have bet big blind after the flop, if theyre stil in,id check the ace hoping they bet on it, then id reraise

check till river hoping he hits something and bets,,if he bets at any time,,check raise him,on river make a value bet,,pick amount? half a third of pot? mabey half his stack,,saw a few decent answers there and not really sure about amount of bet if he doesnt bet myself..id probably go with half the pot mabey more

Thanks to all, you descibe definetly a lot better plays then I did. I also think I might telegraphed something to him, altho I have pretty good poker face.

Thank again, and I hope I will have a chance to use your advise.
