Need help in my tilting/ money bankrol. Advice wanted.

Oct 14, 2008 8:52 am Report Abuse

I just started playing online poker again just a couple months ago. i mainly stuck to live play, but there was a rebuy tourney coming up @ a friends house, and i thought the best way to prepare was to play some online tourneys and SnG's.

IT HELPED! I finshed 4th and inthe money with profit.

But anyways, the reason i stopped playing online in the first place was that sometimes i would just play out of my range that i should play at and i lose my bankroll. I think i am down in total just over $500 in a year's time. It could be worse, but i was up @ one time over $850.

i go on tilt @ times with bad beats, then after i lose money in that particular game i play another higher game (heads up,cash, etc.) to make the moeny back. ITS A HORRIBLE HABIT THAT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH. If i was to look @ my winning percentages i would say i am ok overall, but i do lose the alot playing like this.

Well, i did it again today. after only placing $50 in Bodog, i got it up to $325 in 4 days and lost it today.

PLEASE HELP! i ain't looking for a crying shoulder, just someone who has advice for things like this. I wanna be good at what i do, but i can't with this mental block.

Any help will be nice. i wanna try and take my poker more seriously, i just need advice.

Thanks Sean.

P.S
FOR SOME REASON, I DON'T GET LIKE THAT PLAYING LIVE POKER.

If you can't beat a particular game (heads up,cash) then instead of moving up when you lose.... Move down. Cause if you lose at one limit you will probably lose at a higher limit where the play is usually tougher. Move down until you consistently win and then gradually move up. After you lose a game instead of instantly playing another, since you tend to tilt, go do something else. Read a book, take a quick shower, porn, etc. Cause if you play higher stakes while still in tilt mode you are asking for disaster.

Well this sounds like a bankroll management problem to

me , make a br plan and stick with it no matter what , so if you

get down by a certain amount you must drop down limits

until you make it up , when you are back on track you can

move up again , I never play any game that is more than

5 to ten % of my total br , you have to allow room for variance

in your game plan , bad beats and bad streaks are going to

happen , so sticking to a br plan will help that , also if I'm

running bad I move down limits or just take a little break to

clear my head , hope that helps , gl

Thansk for the advice guys.

1. I will try going lower limits after i lose.
2. The take a breather thing is what i need practice on. It will take discipline, but i gotta try something right?

Thing is i have had good runs when i act a "maniac",lol. (Ex. I lost a $ 6 HU, then went on to win back to back $22 HU). I just gotta start being more discplined!

This site rocks!

Just to keep everyone updated.

As earlier stated i deposited $50 both into Bodog and Full tilt. I stayed within my means, basically i never place anything over a $2.20 buy in (SnG's and HU's).

I did somethings different, like listening to a cd. (It was a CD of "The Secret" which a friend burned for me on CD today to help me out).

I end tonight's total with:

Bodog: $58.20
Full Tilt: $62.15

Now i know this doesn't mean i beat my demons, lol. But i am pleased with the results and i have much to thank you guys. Thanks again and i hope to keep this up. (I mean on the "controlling tilt thing", hopefully profits will follow.)
