When one of our own steps over the line...

Oct 12, 2008 11:54 am Report Abuse

In one of the freerolls yesterday at FullTilt, a member of railbirds made a statement that offended many of us at the table. Someone said they were going to send a transcript of the chat and report the person involved to FullTilt. I feel that this person should have been banned from railbirds or at the very least added to a "Wall of Shame!" What was said? >>

I don't remember it word for word but it went something like this... "I cannot wait for Bin Laden's next big attack.... yada yada." Now, I understand we've all gotten mad after getting KOed from a tournament. I don’t mind a bit when someone curses me on the way out the door... it only happens after I've won a big hand so its a good thing. I even apologize sometimes if I won a really bad beat or something... but there is a point where you have to draw the line. As an American player I am used to the occasional "hater" who wants to turn a poker game into a political debate. We all have seen people mistreated at the tables in public tourney's, ring tables, etc... and I realize that 60,000 members are not all going to get along. That said, I do not see the point in bashing our own members and definitely don't see anything positive coming from a verbal attack on a race, country or applauding the death of thousands of people, killed in a terrorists attack. To say such things only shows that you are an uneducated idiot! To be honest, I don’t understand why any of our own members would curse another over a game of poker. I enjoy winning but I don’t mind losing to any one of our likeable birdie bunch. I often stick around to chat watch and root for my favorites... (that’s not to say I wont get mad and call one of you a donkey one day. lol) >>

There should be a process in place at railbirds to deal with the rude birds, such as an ostrich page to list the bad birds. A picture of an ostrich with his head buried in the sand would say plenty. Of course, if they are willing to attack another member, they probably would care less about being on a list. So maybe they get a 30-day ban or lifetime. I know that just adds more work to the already over worked mods and admins so I guess we will just have to continue living with a few @ssholes! (Pardon my tongue)>>

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas ! ....ever heard that ?..... It is said because people can go there and do anything they want, be whoever they want, and not be worried about it harming their image back home.

It is somewhat the same thing playing on a poker site. People see it as a place they can go and have some fun, and be whoever they want to be, and because thay are sitting in front of a computer, and have a name that isn't really theirs posted, they feel they can do or say anything they want, and get away with it.

There is no way for Railbirds.com to police the poker sites, and what happens on them for the most part stays on them. We can't punish them here for their actions there, no matter how crude they are, and calling them out here isn't going to change things. It is sad that this person has no more respect than they do for themselves, or the game, but Railbirds.com won't be where they get what they deserve, but they will get it, karma has a way of taking care of these things !

....Tc....

I can agree with that... I really just wanted to post it for those who were offended by the comments. I am thick skinned so it really does not bother me. You're right though... trying to police these situations would be like trying to catch every speeding car on the highway. We all have the option to block chat or turn chat off altogether...

I applaud you both on those comments and we just have to tey and be the better person and go on with life as it is. I am guilty of getting upset here also with people that get really rude on these sites, but I just try to bite my tongue so to speak and go on with the game. Its tough at times though, cause some people just don't understand what respecting others means, so I just try harder each time I play when there is a rude person there to just be better than them. Godd for the both of you , gl on the felts and dont stop being who you are!

I agree that there are far too many attacks on us by jerks on the sites, and it's a shame that some of them are members of this forum.

I'm glad this>>> "PS. I hope the person who made this comment reads this blog and you ARE lucky I did not mention you by name!>>" didn't happen, because it would have been a violation of RB rules.....and YOU would have been the one in trouble over it.
