When is Enough Enough? -Chasing

Oct 10, 2008 5:23 am Report Abuse

After playing many recent Heads-Up and Sng matches. I got caught with the problem of calling, or not calling flushes and straights.

My question in need of a answer is how much should you call on the flop and or turn to chase a flush or a straight? In this case you have an open ended straight draw or a four card flush on the flop. say you have 1,500 chips how much should you call to chase for each situation?

I lost many games by calling too much and lost many hands by folding to a little bet. Also, if you have a flush or straight draw and someone min bets do you raise for value assuming you will hit? ( if your not semi-bluffing)

All comments would be apprieciated, Thanks .

ahhh i had this happen many many times flush draw and straight draw i know myself that it'll never hit and it never does but i still like to chase. I would say about maybe.. not more than 2/10 of ur stack

look at the pot size. . u usually have a 1 in 3 chance to hit the flush draw after the flop. so only bet or call 1/3 the pot

Good question.

I have the problem of how much I should call if the board has flopped suited cards, none of which are mine, but it has given me two pairs or a set.

Good Question ButtonDog, most of the time your opponent hasent floped a flush. I check-raise him to see what he does. If he just calls then bet on the turn, if he dosent raise you again you should have him beat. Watch for the fourth card of the same suit though.

Google the the terms "POT ODDS" and " IMPLIED ODDS" and " FOLD EQUITY" , these topics need to be understood and used in your game if your going to play a lot of heads up games.

dont call to chase....use a blocking bet to help you see the next card for your price

You should only call if you're getting the right pot odds, basically the right price to call.
More importantly i think you should call only if you think you will get paid if you do chase and catch your flush or straight. In other words examine your implied odds before you decide to just go into chasing mode.
