Who has the simplest explanation for pot equity? This confuses me and we need a metaphor or a basic concept we can all wrap our minds around when we are actually in a hand. Equity is the value of a particular hand or combination of cards. Pot: The total amount of money wagered at any point in a hand. So is pot equity your hand in relation to the pot in relation to the amount of outs you have to determine your percentage to make your hand and the amount you must call in relation to the pot? WHAT? See what I mean? Some one boil this down for us. An example would be nice too. English please. I do have a great book that explains all this and I do plan on studying that section in depth. But I am very curious to see what my fellow birds have to say about it. You are great players and I can't wait to see your take on Pot Equity.
Sly.

there are basic differences between SNG/MTT and cash game. for getting an answer to this question you need to define wether your question is about?
in cash game the equity is defined by postion and action. defining the strength of your hand against a range for your opponent which fits his action will give you the answer about the $EV.
in a SNG/MTT it is much mor complex. there are some very good concepts about and you should definately have a look at the ICM concept which describes the equity of a hand in relation to the total amount of chips and their value in $.
