RB Freerolls - A Proposal

Oct 7, 2008 10:03 pm Report Abuse

With the ever increasing numbers of password thieves who seem to be invading the Railbird Daily Freerolls together with the increase in abusive chat that members are encountering, it seems very apparent that this is one of the primary concerns of most Railbirds and certainly tops the list for Railbirds Administration. The concensus of opinion is that SOMETHING must be done.

With that in mind, I would like to forward the following proposed changes to the Railbird Daily Freerolls:

1. Each day, a freeroll 'qualifier' is run in place of the Daily Freeroll.

2. The top 10% for each daily qualifier is invited, after confirmation of their standing at Railbirds, to a weekly freeroll for $1500. (Much the same format as the PS weekly Round 2)

3. A committee of volunteers be established to help with verification of these players' eligibility for the weekly freeroll.

4. Players who qualify for the weekly freeroll could be required to PM the committee 'account' to aid in their eligibility process

5. This new format could be tested for a 3 month period to determine members' agreement .

Please don't shoot me!!!!! This is just a proposal that I believe may alleviate some of the pressure that is being applied against the Daily Freerolls.

that would be a great idea and could work very well or have two seperate sets of qualifiers one for ps and one for tilt and have the weekly events one on saturday and one sunday that way ppl that dont play on only one site dont miss out on playing for a week

I would volunteer to be on that committee.

I like this format. I'm sure it would require the poker site's cooperation to pull it off, but they are telling us that the prevention of password thieves is the responsibility of railbirds and not them.

Besides, it would drive that thief site nuts, not being able to advance to the money.

Perhaps not advancing those that got the pw that day without signing in to railbirds. Many of the thieves are members here, but never sign in but show up for the tournaments.

great ideas PP...and if they wanna do something like this i will volunteer to check if they are really a member of railbirds.....but......

.... i wished railbirds could do something with the pokerrooms like doing the pay outs after checking if the winners are really a member and then pay them....i know there is a forum who works that way on FT

I think this is a very good idea papa!
fisheyfish22 Oct 7, 2008 10:23 pm
i just joined, but that just sounds like the whole "hubbles idea" and would Just make mass donks join, and all in even more -.- thats imo

I like your proposal Papa. It could hurt bankroll development for some, especially those who would qualify several times for the weekly. This personally wouldn't bother me as long as we still received points for each daily FR qualifier. Another problem may occur with people in different time zones unable to play in the scheduled weekly FR.

Now maybe we could set up 2 weekly FR's at $750 each. This could help multiple qualifyings as well as time zone problems. It's just a thought on your excellent idea here.

While I think this is certainly something to further look at, I do have to mention the question about Rankings. Seems to me a proposal like this would would certainly mess up the rankings, if not make them impossible.

Your post, and some of the comments have merit, and I will start a thread in the moderators forum for us to discuss this idea !

Maybe the daily freerolls could be for ranking points only and the top 10% advance to the weekly round for the money if they are confirmed to be railbirds at the time of the tournament played.
PapaPower Oct 7, 2008 10:46 pm

Rankings would not be affected at all, Gini.

Qualifiers would run every day, seven days a week. Top 10% get invited to the weekly freeroll (or freerolls if the have one at each site). Ranking points are awarded exactly the same as they are now. The weekly freeroll would be for $$ prizes only as the points would already have been awarded in the daily qualifier.

a great idear papa with u all the way its gotta stop and thats that
bebewins Oct 8, 2008 12:57 am

I would never be able to play in a freeroll if I had to make it past a qualifier first..lol

This is brilliant idea!

In addition, I think 2 $750 tournaments would be perfect - once on Sat & Sun, once on FTP & PS. This will also give much nicer prices to start building your BR - not much can be done with 15 or 25 cents, while a buck or two is still something to start with ( I know, I've started with $2 won on razz FR on FTP lol )

I feel intimidated somewhat making a comment on a blog like this. But here goes.

I think there could be problems for people who don't live in USA and Canada (UK, Europe and South Pacific regions) to make the time to play in the $1500 weekly game. Also, there are many like me who are not great card players but join in a RB FR every now and then and catch up with friends. I have only ever got to a final table twice in a RB FR and cashed a little in 2-3 games. There are many other players like me on RB who aren't the best players but do like the FreeRolls.

Overall, I think the idea sounds good - but could limit a lot of other Birdies from "qualifying" and/or being able to meet the time set for the $1500 game. But if there is anyway you can stop the password thieves - go for it!!

Well any idea is a good ne to me. We need to start somewhere. This idea is definitely a start. I think it is worth a shot. I agree with you papa.
MarnieT Oct 8, 2008 1:15 am
The only glitch I can see in this is that there will still be dishonest RBs who pass out the passwords to non birds, in hopes that their friends will still cash. However, instead of having to repeatedly knock out non birds, qualifiers will only have to face them once.

And - hoping that the greed factor might discourage dishonest birds from sharing the pw in the first place - less of the pie to be won if they let their friends in without qualifying.

another easy system would also be the system like they have for the USA freerolls and such~u click here to regi, hmmmmmmmm~!~then u wouldnt have to have a commintee to check the rb status~if there not an rb, they dont get regied~

gl with it papa~good idea~
