Dancing with the devil
I use to do that
he guided me through
every misstep I took
Broke and cold
the devil left me
knowing he had succeed
in making me a demon
slowly I would eat away
at my soul and my heart
Till I was nothing more then a shell
Just stuck in this exsistance
Not really living
you could see in my eyes
that I was dead on the inside
So if the devil ever calls for
you better say never
don't be like me
and let one misstep
Kill you on the inside.

The fair haired child at her Grandma's knee,
Rested on the porch listening to a tale she told.
On this very mountain, many years ago,
The Devil came looking for a soul to keep.
A raven haired maiden with eyes of green,
Sang as she worked and she dreamed a dream.
Oh to go dancin' and be the bell of the ball,
To be the prettiest one, the one that was seen.
Old Scratch he changed himself into a man,
He got her attention and he offered a plan.
There's a dance in the village, we could go
You can ware the red slippers, a dancin we'll go.
Oh she whispered I'd give up my soul, just to go once
Old Scratch had her, he knew it, and smiled
You can Dance with the Devil, you can be wild,
The maiden was silly, she looked up and smiled.
She put on the red slippers, she tied back her hair
To Dance with the Devil, she knew she would dare.
She danced all the evening her feet how they flew
The stranger he held her, his strength held her there.
The moon wained, the time passed, the end it drew near,
Dancing with the Devil, at last brought on fear.
Attempting to break loose, his power held her there
You've danced with the devil, Now I'll have my due.
Her foolishness pushed her, she remembered her words,
Crying for help the neighbors all cowered
Except for a young man, his name Jonathan Howard
Seizing the maiden, he held her, bade her to dance.
If I can hold her 'til midnight and out dance you as well,
She'll stay here beside me, you'll go back to Hell,
The couple they danced, the fiddler he played
Her feet were a bleedin' but the dancers they stayed.
At midnight the church bell, rang out all twelve times
The devil he vanished, and the maiden was saved.
He carried her homeward and allowed her to sleep
Left in the heart of her family, in peace she did weep.
The fair haired child at her Grandma's knee,
Named for her grandpa, her name Johnnie Howard,
Her Grandma's red shoes in the trunk by the door
She'd Danced with the Devil, and was home once more.
I don't procrastinate; I reschedule.
