Poker Stars Substitution Rule

Oct 4, 2008 10:04 pm Report Abuse

Read rule number 21. This is interesting.

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/tournaments/rules/

21.3 "You are playing in a tournament and lose power in your home due to a failure of your power station. You call a friend and he takes over until your power is returned. This is permitted."

How does Poker Stars know that your power has indeed gone out. Sounds like an on-line honor system.

wish I had known about it LOL Happened more than once to me being ITM and losing power. Have to remember this one. LOL

And what about if you have to go and pass it onto someone handy?

I'd like to see that in a real tourney. "Ooops, I have to go so I'll my buddy play for me.He's better at poker than I am."

Good question. It must be an honor system. I doubt that there is anything that would confirm any power failures or anything though. It's still nice to know that if I'm deep in a big $$ tourney and everything goes black, I can zip to a friends and play there, or have him play for me, or even call someone out of town. It would suck to lose because of a blackout. In a brick and mortar casino, things are different, but on-line has it's own idiosyncracies and foibles, like a desperate need for electricity

adrianovalen was the chip leader at the final table on Poker Stars last night. They got the pw from that thief site I assume because they have signed into railbirds just twice this year and zero time in October. He is an active member of that site. He said he was leaving and his girl friend was taking over for him. I reported him to Poker Stars and Poker Stars informed me of this rule and they believe this is what happened.

Here's the e-mail received from Poker Stars.

Hello Vernon,

Thank you for your email.

We do in fact have a ruling on substitution, you may
read about it here:
http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/tournaments/rules/

It is under Rule #21. I would classify this case as
example 3 listed. It really depends on what the player
needed to do or go to, if it was an emergency or
unexpected event, then that would be permitted.

While the chat was inconclusive, as we cannot determine
the nature of the player's emergency, I am still
leaning towards the genuine end, that it was an
unexpected event. This is because:

- his girlfriend is less likely to be a better player
than he is
- he would not have publicly announced it if that
was his intention, she could have easily taken over
and none of you would have known

All in all, we do not have further materials to
justify any action.
However thank you for your report. Vigilant players
such as yourself who
point out situations that merit investigation are an
important part of our arsenal.

If there is anything else we can help you with, please
let us know.

Regards,

Kiet

topcat1954 Oct 4, 2008 11:03 pm

Well the next time I go deep in a tournament, I will trip my main breaker, then I will call Chris Ferguson and see if he would mind finishing it for me !....or at least I would, if I had his phone number !...This is just so strange !

....Tc....

This is the same guy that got caught with 2 accts last week at Tilt and they axed one of them. He gave his buddy the pw who was also playing the other acct.

The level some people will stoop to.
