More Money

Oct 4, 2008 7:56 pm Report Abuse

If you haven't read yesterdays blog about how to make money playing the new Double or Nothing Games on Poker Stars, go do it now !

www.railbirds.com/blog/203857/makin-money-heres-how.html

If you have read it, then you have a formula for success in building a bankroll ! There have been several Pm's sent to me, and some comments left on the blog by people who have tried the strategy outlined, and it has worked for them !

This morning I have cashed out $45 so far in 4 of these Double or Nothing games, and lost $5 in one experimental game I played. In it, I chose to sit out, and see what would happen. When I went back to look in on the game, I was down to $30 left and I had just posted a $250 BB, so I went all in with Q,J off suit, and lost to A rag. This particular game had 71 hands dealt in it at this point, and I went out 6th. If it would have been a normal 45 to 50 hand game I would have probably cashed, but I am not advocating sitting out as a way to make any money !

The biggest thing that I have noticed in these games is the amount of unnecessary risk a lot of players take ! It seems that they are trying to get all the chips like in a regular tournament, but in these games, that isn't the objective ! In these games all you have to do is out last 5 other players. When it gets down to 6 or 7 I see way to many people playing hands that they shouldn't be in !

If it is down to 6 or 7 players, and you lead out with a bet, and get 1 caller, who has a bigger stack then you, and there are a couple of people who have short stacks not in the hand, there is no reason at all to waste your chips trying to win a hand that won't knock someone out ! Having $5000 chips at the end pays the same as having $10 in chips, so the correct strategy is to play to survive, and hold onto the chips you have, NOT to accumulate chips late in the game !

Playing these tournament with the typical tournament strategy is a mistake that many people are making, and I WANT RAILBIRDS TO NOT BE THE ONES DOING IT, BUT INSTEAD BE THE ONES TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THESE PEOPLES MISTAKES, AND THEREBY BUILDING BANKROLLS !

If ever there was a time to capitalize on information found on this site, I believe this is it ! There is no player here on this site that can't win in these games using the simple strategy outlined in my blog ! You won't win every one, because bad beats will happen, but there is no reason not to believe that 3 out of 4 wins isn't possiable ! Think about it, you have a 50/50 chance to win when you sit down, but because you have a proven srtategy that works, your odds are better than that !

Look at it this way, if you play 2 at a time for $10+$1 each, and play these 5 times in a day, that is 10 games you end up playing, and this will likely take 5 hours (or even less) total. If you win just 7 of them, then you will have gained a profit of $53 for your effort, that over 5 days turns into $265 profit, if you average 7 of 10 wins a day, and that shouldn't be hard to do ! If you can average 8 wins a day, then your profit for the 5 day week would be $310 !

This can be cut in half time wise if you can manage 4 tables at a time, that means there is potentially a profit of near $25 an hour ! It really isn't that difficult to win 8 of 10, if you just don't take unnecessary risks, and follow the simple strategy outlined for you ! I have watched some of the other limits, higher, and lower, and it looks all about the same to me. I don't think anyone should risk more of their bankroll than good management skills would contend is smart, however, there is opportunity to make money here, at least until everybody else figures out that risk taking, and trying to grab all the chips isn't the winning strategy for this format !

Good Luck to all who play, and I hope to hear more reports of Railbirds taking these games down, it is out there for us all, if we want to take a stab at it !

....play on ....Tc....

I get to play mainly overnights while working (shhhhh don't tell my boss). The problem I ran into last night is that the PS servers were down for reboot close to 5 hours. Can anyone tell me if this is nightly or just once in a while or point me to where I can find a schedule for it on PS?

I agree these are great bank builders , many people do

seem to think they have to have all the chips to win lol , quite a

few people take themselves out of the game for you by

playing very reckless in a last longer format , easy money !

I tried one of these games, and all went accordingly to plan till a big stack made a bad move (bluff all in) against a short one. (the last one left to go)

After that i went carddead, (hadn't seen anything higher than an eight, everything os and no pocket pairs for almost 10 hands) blinds were getting pretty high, 2 more players got higher in chips, and that left me dangling at the bottom of the foodchain.

Still the other shortstack wasn't much ahead in chips, and i stole the blinds with pocket nines (nearly a double up) and two hands later i put someone out on the bubble holding JJ.

I had to risk all my chips once in this game (UTG and folded to me, holding 9's).

I think your strategy is pretty spot on, but people that just don't understand they don't have to win 1st place can mess up your game with silly moves

I will try to play more than 1 at a time tomorrow...

Today i am 4-2 in these games.

Thank you topcat,
I started 21 for 23 of these, but now the bad beats are hitting, but even as that happens, im still 50% last 10. Which means im paying the rake, but keep at it and the run will start again, this much i know. You are right.Dont get discouraged by this, remember you are up so to lose $2 in rake is nothing to the $40 i made in 2 days playing $2 double or nothings. Time to move up tomorrow. Great bank builder folks.Follow formula. only play when you have the hand. i totally agree w this and it worked for me as soon as they started these i played that way from beginning, still alot of donks out there!

ty for ur advice on these. 8 for 12 so far
TexquinOntilt Oct 6, 2008 6:11 pm

I have not seen these games, what is the structure: # of players, blind increments, etc. Whoever wrote the first blog made it sound like this was a new strategy (TAG), but actually all 9 man SNG should be played this same way, regardless of the structure. For more in depth study on this subject, pick up a copy of :"Sit and Go Strategy" by Collin Moshman.

Kryptonite07 Oct 6, 2008 6:28 pm

Thanks TC solid strategy as always.

Havent been able to sit down and play alot this weekend, but I hope to do so today and tonight.

What little I have played has been 75% winners, one was a bad beat, best hand til the river.

One I think I did about blind out and had to play a subpar hand, no big deal.

Good stuff TC I hope PS leaves these games up for awhile!!!!!!!!!

bigword Oct 6, 2008 7:31 pm
Well i am trying really hard, grinding it out on the 2.20 games. It is back an forth actually. But with the .20 rake on the buy-in. I am losing .20 every game and have make just a little profit so far. Hopefully i can find some timre to play more.
Acousticdude Oct 6, 2008 7:44 pm
Since my funds are a little low on PS, I played a couple of the small stakes SnG's and did win. Plan to play more. If you play smart it's pretty easy to place in the top 5. Thanks for the info TC
TexquinOntilt Oct 6, 2008 7:56 pm
Can someone please let us know where these games are located, and what are the payouts (if different from regular sng).
Markie141 Oct 7, 2008 1:26 am

They are on PS in the one table sit n gos ,

they run them all the time ,

as soon as 10 people enter it starts,

the pay out is literally double or nothing ,

10 people enter , the top 5 get double the entry fee,

the bottom 5 don't cash at all,

it's not the same as a regular sit n go for that reason,

it's a last longer format , there's no benefit to coming higher

than 5th place at all , gl
