I just got back from a walk and on that walk I had disscussion with a fellow card player but he is 20+ yrs my senior. Our discussion centered around checking the nut hand or check raising the same. He said that is new to the game "back in the day" you never did that .This being the reason he and a few others won't play in some of the local tournies. Iam talking just tournament not friend or buddy cash games. Our buddies cash game it is frowned on and is a unspoken rule until you do it then you get shit, comply or no invitation back I can deal with that. I didn't argue with him but he could not see it as I see a useful tactic employed when needed.

It is a weapon that is in every good poker players aresnal, and used properly can net you a big pot sometimes. It is to be used sparringly, and timing is everything with it, but to say it is unethical, or wrong in any way is just foolishness !
....play on ...Tc....
For sure in old poker days, the 'check-raise' was considered a no-no and highly frowned upon.
An old-school player would have a hell of a time playing in today's games with the way the game has become so aggressive. Even a couple of decades ago, JJ was considered a fold to a raise ahead of ya. Things have changed considerably 'eh'.
