Supernova and Supernova Elite are achieved on a yearly basis. If you earn 100,000 VPPs between January 1st and December 31st in a single calendar year, you become a Supernova VIP. This supersedes the monthly levels and you stay a Supernova for the remainder of the year. The same applies to Supernova Elite.
Those are their VIP status. Everyone starts out as a bronze star. If you earn enough VPP's you move up to silver star, then gold, then platinum, then supernova.
