We are Americans not sheep !!!

Sep 30, 2008 7:52 am Report Abuse

This here is wriiten by a very good friend of mine.

Her name is Shannon and I figured i would share it with you all.

You know, the more and more I watch the news on television the more and more I become angered by those who are in charge of our country. Who are these people and why are they making decisions about who I can marry and how my money gets spent? They tax my pay check, but never once have I gotten a telephone call from Mr. Bush asking me if I is okay for him to spend and spend and spend until our country is dug so deep in debt that the light of day is no longer visible. I did not elect these people and though some of you who are receiving this may have... how many of you did so because you thought you were voting for the lesser of two evils? How many of you realized that there are more than just two presidential candidates out there?
Well guess what! There are!
So, why don't we hear about these other candidates? Because they are not strong enough or financially powerful enough in a way to rival the Republicans or the Democrats.
Please people, educate yourselves. There are not only two choices! There are several more!
Mr. Obama is calling for change.
I'll say we need a change. It's time to think outside of the box. We need to take a stand against the strong hold the republicans and the democrats have over this country and send a message to those on capitol hill and let them know that we do want a change.
As Americans we have the freedom to make choices. How about, instead of just voting for someone from the choices presented on television and the radio, this year, we vote for the BEST person for the job and not the person who kinda/sorta meets the qualifications.
Imagine yourself an employer and you had to hire a person to fill a position within your company. Normally, you would accept SEVERAL applications then go through a process of elimination based on presented qualifications, interviews, then you would make your choice of the best possible person to fill that position. It is kind of easy to narrow it down to the best person because you had the opportunity to review several different applicants, interview them, then weigh their qualifications as well as ability to do the job. Now, imagine the same process, but you are only permitted to choose your future employee from the two applications on the top of the pile. By only seeing two applications you may possibly be over looking the best possible person for the job merely because their application was at the bottom of the stack and not readily visible.
Now, do not think I am telling anyone how to vote, I am not. I just want for the message to get across that we are not limited to just two choices.
I am including a web page link to the List of 2008 Presidential Candidates. If you scroll down the pages a little bit you will find a complete list of all of the candidates for the presidency and after reviewing their stance on the issues, I can tell you that I will not be voting for Obama or McCain.
hope everyone takes the time to look into this and as well that we all get out and vote.
remember its our country to !!!
much respect
jroyfus

WOW! Great blog.
I TOTALLY understand yours and your friends frustration, I am sure all Americans share it to some degree. I KNOW I DO.
And while a agree with almost every word of it in theory, I do want to play devils advocate for just a second.
First, While there are several very smart, very good people technically running for president (Ralph Nader among them) The reality is they are not serious contenders for the post. They are NOT going to win, It's like when Ross Peroit ran, he had some VERY good platforms and a lot of votes went his way, but no where near enough, he became a "SPOILER" He didnt win the election by a mile but he did take enough votes from one serious contender to win it for the one who most polls say would have lost if he had not taken so many votes.
Second, It's NOT the President controls the vast majority of the power, in fact it is our Congessmen and Senators who write and pass the vast majority of laws, bills, budgets, everything. and they ACTULLY do care what we think, they need us for reelection PERIOD! and if enough of us bombard them with what we want, Health care, freedom to spend our income any why we want, who we can marry, and so on. and if they don't listen and care out our wish's like they are elected to, we have the power to Vote in someone who will, or at least someone we hope will, sooner or later we will find leadership who respects our wishs.
And my last point is, VOTE, write and E-mail your elected officials, tell them what you think, what you want, and make it very clear if you don't think they are doing the job YOU elected them to do YOU WILL use YOUR VOTE to find someone who will.
If you don't speak up then they will never hear us, if we don't inforce our will with the means at our disposal ( Mass E-mails, letters, public opinon ect) and back it up with our VOTES every time we get the chance then it's just as much our fault as theirs , maybe more.
GREAT BLOG! and thank you for letting me add my simple thoughts

the way things are now i would NEVER vote for a 3rd party candidate due to the fact that i would just be taking votes away from the (traditional) candidate i want in office over the other...

see the 2000 elections.

if you lean more towards the left and u vote for anybody besides obama you are just harming the country. change has to come before you can vote for a 3rd party right now as sad as it sounds

One final thought, back when Lee Iacoca <probably spelled wrong sorry.> had turned Chrysler from a company bordering on bankruptcy to one of the most profitable companies in the world, in record time. He was seriously pressured to run for president and help do the same thing for the Country. His reply was this and I quote " Any one smart enough and qualified to take the job running this great nation would NEVER consider doing it for so little compinsation, and anyone willing to take the job for so little compinsation is way to stupid to do the job required."
Need less to say he pased, This job is HUGE and we need the best of the best to even concider trying to do the job, but The "Best of the Best" are paid MILLIONS a year some times BILLIONS, have TOTAL CONTROL , are NOT TARGETS FOR EVERY ASSASSIN IN THE WORLD, and have about 100 other great reasons NOT to take the job of President. Until we make it worth ther time effort the very best of the bests will avoid it like the plauge and we will be stuck with what we get now.
Sorry I do go on some times LOL

Commander_Purdy Sep 30, 2008 1:10 pm

the same goes for republican voters btw.
topcat1954 Sep 30, 2008 1:12 pm

Baa, baaaa, baaaaa ! .....We like sheep are being led to slaughter, and there is no way out !....I think it is time to seriously consider what happens in the next life, this one, as we know it, is about over !

....Tc....

Commander Purdy is 100% right.
In fact as a Republican I would be thrilled if millions of people decided to vote for Nader, and all the Green Party Candidates , and other independent Candidates because the VAST majority of people who will be tempted to vote for a "Fresh" "New" Candidate are people who are likely to Vote For Obama other wise.
The cold hard truth is any vote not for Obama is basically a Vote for McCain.
I am just saying
Commander_Purdy Sep 30, 2008 1:21 pm
EXACTLY my point

Commander_Purdy Sep 30, 2008 1:23 pm
oh and to get things clarified i do not like the two party system. but voting for a third party candidate is not going to change things (unless millions and millions do it which isnty going to happen)

there should be mass protests to put laws in place that make it possible for 3rd parties to be elected

Ironman Sep 30, 2008 1:27 pm
To every thing Commander Purdy just added I can only say "Ditto" he hit it right on the head.
The system sucks, It needs MAJOR over hauls on almost every level, but as it stands now, it is what it is, and we need to seriously work with what we actually have NOW, which is one of the two major parties.

Really it's all pointless for a number of reasons in my book:

1) Until they get rid of the electorial college our vote doesn't matter anyways

2) The president is really a figure head to deal with foriegn relations. If you really want to make a change in this country start by electing a congress/senate that's worth a damn.

I have been voting since 1868. This will be my 10th Presidential election. Of those ten elections I have voted either Democrat or Republican just 3 of those times. I always vote for the best rather than the lesser of two evils.

Voting was never intended to be a easy process and it never should be. But people should never be like sheep and vote straight two party tickets.

I won't say who I'm voting for, but it won't be Obama, who believe nobody has any right to be able to keep the money they earn for themselves nor McCain, who believes it's ok to be friends with Vietnam while they commit genocide against our greatest allies of the Vietnam people, the Montagnards.

Yes, one other thing, where does people get the idea that the President is the leader of American. He has no more power than Congress. Congress passes the laws and he enforces them. So consider who you vote for for Congress if you want change, a President can't change anything.

"Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice . . . you don’t. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own, and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought, and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying . . . lobbying, to get what they want . . . Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I’ll tell you what they don’t want . . . they don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that . . . that doesn’t help them. "
