you need em as low as u can get. the lowest 5 card combination wins. Aces are low. so if you have a hand on 7th street like 4K2A396K then ur combo is A2346 which is a very good hand. Pairs are bad in razz, Avoid em!. Flushes dont matter!

Now hand combos. A2348 beats A2358 (4 is lower then 5) A2345 is the best hand u can have in razz! And thats about it!

It's like 7 card stud only for the LO. you are trying to make the lowest hand as opposed to the highest.

7 card lowball. Str8's & flushes don't count.

I think that game plays YOU

I love it though. the only real way to learn is to play. You must figure out how high of a card your opponent must play given the cards you can see and decide if it is worth playing or finishing the hand

Razz is a terrific game, if you have the patience. It's like 7 stud, in that chasing your hand is foolish. It's like any poker, in that you should play only the best starting hands. The link that Markie141 gave is excellent. Read that.

The only thing I would add is this: if you feel you must play a hand with only 2 low cards (bad idea normally), do not stick around if you get another brick. (A "brick" is a card that you don't want---a high card in this case, or one that pairs what you already have.) You want the lowest possible hand, and you will lose your money if you chase it too often. Patience!

Razz is like any other form of poker, except that fewer people play it well.

Let me add to my above comment...having been slaughtered early in the tourney.

The fact that many play badly is something to worry about in a tournament as big as this was, particularly a freeroll. For instance, I got caught in a hand--my last hand, it turned out-- between a guy who had a patently horrible hand, and a guy who had, until 6th street, a definitely worse hand than mine (and on sixth street, it was even). They both raised to the max each time, and I had to stay in. The one guy was a sure loser, and the other guy caught up to me by the end. Other than folding a hand that was looking like a winner, I was kinda stuck.

But...this is actually where Razz is like any other poker. The hand ain't over til it's over. AND some people will play stupidly. And sometimes you need to take a risk, and sometimes you will lose when you do. And sometimes you need to fold to stay alive...and in tournaments, stayin alive is the main thing for quite awhile. I forgot that, in my greed. What can I say---the pot was huge.
