WILL I GET TO PLAY ONLINE AFTER TOMORROW?????

Sep 25, 2008 6:46 pm Report Abuse

Beshear, our govenor is trying to ban online gambling and it goes to court tomorrow. If he succeeds then i guess playing online will no longer be an option for me. I find it very funny that he wants to ban online gambling, but was all for opening casino's in KY. I guess that since KY doesnt make a profit off of online gambling that it has to be banned! I wonder if he gets his way in court (which i am sure he will) will they close down my accounts and take my BR!? Should i find someone to safeguard it for me? This is horrible!

Even if it does get passed tomorrow that stuff rarely takes effect immediately. I would email FT or wherever you play and ask them if that happens witll you get your money back, I hope it doesnt happen

Most sites like full tilt will still let you play if you alreadey have an account. Online gambling is banned in like 11 or 12 states currently and illinois is one of them. Im still able too deposit and withdraw from sites like full tilt and poker stars. But other new sites or smaller ones they usualy wont let me. I wouldnt worry too much about it right away. But if you are I would move or cash out before the bill gets passed good luck.....
riverqueen1972 Sep 25, 2008 7:18 pm

OK, so what is his reasoning behind wanting to shut down online gambling?

Some people have no control and continuously deposit again and again, over and over until they have nothing left... no money, no house, no job, no friends or family, ... because they spent all their time and money playing online poker. Maybe taking it away would be a good thing.

regardless of any laws passing......you would always still be entitled to you money...

if your state makes it illegal, you would still be able to withdraw any funds from your account....thay cant just take it away....

anyhow.....no matter what law a state passes...they really have no way of enforcing it........worse case is you could have trouble making deposits

river queen, the same thing happens on live(offline gambling) and nothing is done about it. Why should millions of people be punished because a few idiots are seriously addicted.
Kasino_86 Sep 25, 2008 7:30 pm

I have to disagree with u riverqueen I shouldnt be punished for other peoples actions. Freedom is now considered a joke. Also, if u read the articles about beshear wanting to ban online poker he says nothing of people gambling away their house, all their money, ect. he feels it is taking away from the horse racing industry. ALSO, if u didnt read it in my blog the one of his main running campaigns was to open numerous CASINO'S in the state of KY! How is that better for people addicted to gambling?

1rainbow Sep 25, 2008 7:33 pm
well i'm right across the river from you, in indiana & we been banned for awhile now, if they don't get kick backs then they don't want us doing it, pretty soon they'll be telling us where we can take a shyt, & how to wipe it afterwards, idiots i tell ya, & of course they are all for the casinos because they get revenue from that, there are a few sites left where we can play stars & tilt are two of them luckily
Kasino_86 Sep 25, 2008 7:39 pm

Here is an excerpt that i took from the courier-journal a Louisville, KY based newspaper:

"Beshear said at a news conference that illegal and unregulated gambling Web sites -- many of which operate from other countries -- are "leeches on our communities" and unfairly undermine Kentucky's horse-racing industry.

In what he called a potentially groundbreaking case, Beshear said he filed a civil suit last week in Franklin Circuit Court against 141 Internet domain names, such as pokerstars.com and fulltiltpoker.com. "

I live in Kentucky as well, so yeah, pretty anxious to see how all this ends up.
jusfoldf1sh Sep 25, 2008 7:46 pm

they are trying to ban it b/c they say to much money is spent from Kentucky into the online world and they would rather build casinos so they can put money back into the state...

glad we have casinos(3) here so we might be the last ones affected

feel sorry for yall GLGLGLGL

2 years ago when they first tried stopping online gaming, I was playing on a site called JetSetPoker. I was in a tournament one night and all of a sudden, this message popped up on the screen saying the site was closing down in 5 minutes! No one had a chance to withdraw their money or anything. From what I got told, a number of the players on that site from countries other than the US got their $, but most people didn't. I only had about $300 on there but a guy I know had over $16,000 on the site......and never saw a dime of it!
riverqueen1972 Sep 25, 2008 8:33 pm

That's why I asked what his reasons were for wanting to shut it down...

And yes, people gamble away their lives at real casinos as well... but online gambling allows people who are addicted to isolate themselves in their homes and cut off every aspect of LIFE while losing everything they have.

I dont really care either way, it doesn't affect me... I dont live in the USA and I have control over the money I am willing to lose when gamblilng, online or in casinos and live games.

If he wants to close access to the sites because it would hurt the horse racing industry, well... thats a bit sad. And how can he file civil suits against online poker sites? Have they hurt him in some way?

Doesnt really make much sense if you look at it that way.

I did read an article that mentioned even if this goes through that the poker sites have already started name changes, so I don't think much will happen. For instance Iwannaplaypoker.com will become Ireallywannaplaypokernow.com and then the state would have to go back to court before they can block the second name. I am sure the poker sites will do everything possible to allow you to play.

I can't name the article exactly but it was on another forum which I am not allowed to mention (cause it will be blocked out)

I find that if the government can make a profit on it they will let you do it.I hope you can continue to play and meet new friends and have a good time.

well that sucks im glad i dont live in the usa land of the non free the only freedom you have is the freedom of speech what good does that do you if they wont listen
Markie141 Sep 25, 2008 11:35 pm

I don't know about the kentucky case but I think in general it's all about money and how the govt can't get enough of it , they have no problem allowing casinos in their state but have big problems with online gaming lmaoo ,it's our money not theirs ,

as for other people having gambling problems well all alcohol isn't outlawed because some people have drinking problems ,

I like to know his reasoning for how horse racing isn't gambling , that's not even a skill game it's just pick a horse !

SwannySA Sep 25, 2008 11:45 pm

Gosh, hope we get to see you still on Tilt and PS after the ruling. And here you are running a table contest to find the best Hello Kitty table and to bring you wins, wins, wins.

Good luck. It seems strange they can bring in different laws for each state.

jsc88310 Sep 25, 2008 11:50 pm

The easiest way to fix problems like this is to move. No, I'm not trying to be rude, it is the easiest fix.

Next comes the hard one.......The politicians work for US. If they are taking actions we don't believe in, it is in our best interest to see to it that they become unemployed the next time we vote, period. If, by chance, they manage to hold onto thier jobs, see the easiest fix.

I know that neither of the above will help anyone when they get shut out of the online casinos, but if you can get the right people in office you can get the laws repealed. The government realized this when they had to repeal Abolition (no booze unless you were a license physician). Laws can be taken away, just as they can be created.

Gosh maybe its that people have wised up to horrors of horse racing, and thats why the horse racing industry is struggling. Off topic I know
