Need your help.....Poker Quotes

Sep 17, 2008 12:42 pm Report Abuse

If I could impose on you....

I have scoured the net looking for poker quotes looking for those that just jump out at me as being profound. For example, these two by Lou Krieger.

You have it in your power to turn a bad-beat around simply by realizing this simple truth: The more bad beats you encounter, the luckier you are. It's a sign that you are playing against opponents who continually take the worst of it, and if you can't beat someone who always takes the worst of it, you can't beat anyone. ~Lou Krieger
Most of the money you'll win at poker comes not from the brilliance of your own play, but from the ineptitude of your opponents. ~Lou Krieger
What quotes do you find most profound or inspirational?
Thanks in advance,
Sandman

"If it weren't for luck, I would win all these things", or something like that...Phil Helmuth

Also the now infamous "I can dodge bullets baby!", also Phil Helmuth

..."A man with money is no match against a man on a mission"...

"When luck shuts the door, you gotta crawl in in the window" Doyle Brunson

"You tell me what you could of had that beat my 2's, c'mon don't try to sell me, you gotta know your client" or something similar Howard Lederer

"You call...gonna be all over, baby." -- Scotty Nguyen, during the 1998 World Series of Poker

"Hold em is to stud what chess is to checkers." -- Johnny Moss

The strong point in poker is never to lose your temper, either with those you are playing with or, more particularly, with the cards. There is no sympathy in poker. Always keep cool. If you lose your head you will lose all your chips.-The Gentleman’s Handbook on Poker by William J. Florence

“It never hurts for potential opponents to think you’re more than a little stupid and can hardly count all the money in your hip pocket, much less hold on to it..”- Amarillo Slim

After taking over 30,000 chips from a mouthy player with my straight flush against his A high flush, as he ranted and bemoaned how bad my play was:

"Shhhh. Please be quiet while I'm counting your chips."

"blibbity balbbity bloo" Daniel Negreanu

There are no bad beats, just bad timing and bad players. -Me-

I am not sure if he was a poker player or not, but 19th century American comedian Josh Billings always made me think when I pondered his quote,

"Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well."

I also like the practicality at the poker table that is contained in another of his quotes:

"It is better to know nothing than to know what ain't so."

I always think of that last when pondering, should I call this, it may be a bluff.....

"you need skill to play great---you need luck to win" -- Don Wolff (me)

"theres no crying in poker" !! my funny one to get me through badbeats

"If you didn't want to lose them, why did you put them in the pot?"

"You called with that?!?" --"You pushed with that?"

I can't attribute them to the correct pro, well, the call/push was doyle and someone else, but these are two good ones to live by.......If you don't want to lose em, don't put em in the middle" & "sometimes pocket 3's are better than anything the other guy has"

Baseball is like a poker game. Nobody wants to quit when he's losing; nobody wants you to quit when you're ahead. ~Jackie Robinson

Poker: the art of civilized bushwhacking. ~Nick Dandalos

Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died. ~Seven Wright

The guy who invented poker was bright, but the guy who invented the chip was a genius. ~Author Unknown

"Poker is alot like sex, everyone thinks they are the best, but most don't have a clue what they are doing!" - Dutch Boyd

"Poker?... I hardly even know her!" - Jack Styles

"I'm like, 'Oh, no,' ... I check. I'm hoping he bets so I can throw my hand away. But he checks" - Daniel Negreanu

I don't remember it exactly but it is something like this:

The difference between pros and everybody else, pros make moves with 5-6 suited, everybody else makes moves with AK

-Phil Helmuth
