Only one player could walk away from the €8,500 buy-in Partouche Poker Tour no-limit hold'em main event in Cannes on Sunday, September 7 with the $1,426,465 first-place prize, and that player’s name is Alain Roy. Roy emerged from a field of 480 players in a tournament that featured a huge prize pool worth €3.2 million in just its first year. The tournament was characterized by long days, but the final battle featured the exact opposite. Only three hands were needed to decide a winner between Roy and his opponent, Claudio Rinaldi. Rinaldi did take his lifetime tournament winnings over $1 million with the runner-up finish worth $729,158. The PPT Cannes main event began on Sept. 3, and after two day-one flights the remaining competitors played down to a final table of eight on day 3. The final eight played down to a champion this evening.

Many of the top professional players from across the world were present in the French Riviera this past week, and many of them did well in the event. Gus Hansen just missed the final table, finishing in ninth place to end a long day 3. Other pros that joined Hansen in the money at the event included Raul Paez (11th place), Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi (14th place) and his brother Robert (15th place), Noah Schwartz (28th place), and Scotty Nguyen (44th place). The top 48 players received a minimum of $15,963 in prize money.
