9/11/2001 Where were you when you heard?

Sep 7, 2008 12:52 am Report Abuse

I was doing my usual caddy job with a 4 some of guys that were in from across the US.. One guy's son worked for CNN and the one guy's wife worked for United Corporate. We got the first phone call while we were on our fifth hole, after the first tower was hit. We had 100 phone calls within the first 60 minutes. We knew they closed all the airports by the time we got to the 7th tee........and then we saw it: UAL Flight 93 came over our golf course in PA.....it crashed approximately 20 miles from us. We didn't hear the impact as it was on the other side of a 2700 ft high Ridge Line in our local mountains. We didn't know it was flight 93 until we got the call minutes later from our CNN guy....then we all haqd a terrible awareness that we saw the plane in its final one minute or so of flight.....

The FBI came days later to interview some ppeople to get some perspective from our vantage.

God Bless All Who Have Lost Their Lives in the Name of Terror and Fighting Terror!!!

Over 3,000 lives lost that day and thousands since

I was off that day , 911 is actually my birthday , I woke up late and went to let my dogs out and saw it was on the TV in the living room , I still hate thinking about that day and those cowardly people who did that , but I'll never forget ,gl

I was working (land surveying) on the Savannah ANG base. I was told about the first plane to strike a tower by the gate guard as we drove in. I was told about the second, by a passing airman. Mind you I was working less than 50 feet from the preflight area. I heard about flight 93 after the sirens had gone off signaling the base lock down. We were allowed to leave (actually rushed off) the base in what I later realized was a huge breach of security, we should have been escorted off the base at least. But all in all I will never forget where I was or the look of agony on the faces of all around me that day.

i actually had no idea for about half the day that this had even happened, i had just moved in to my new apartemnt so i had no TV or telephone hooked up yet. i found out a couple hours later when i went to go get some gas on my way to work, i pulled up to the pump and seen that it was alomost 5 bucks a gallon and then i found out, freaked me out. God bless everyone that was involved with that, they will never be forgotten.

I was home packing to fly to California the next day. Had the tv on and saw it all. My son was stationed in Germany at the time. I tried to call to tell him I was okay but couldn't get through. He called 30 minutes later from base to beg me not to fly. The eeriest thing is I live 20 minutes from D/FW International. The sky was devoid of airplanes. Like everything in the US was in mourning.

Helping in a golf tourney for the United Way at the Army base here in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. By the time we had made it back to the club house the twin towers where just being hit by the second plane and the end was near. It was an emotional moment for all. We are still fighting that terrible battle and refuse to let terrorism and those who insist it is the only way to solve their problems. God bless the USA and other freedom minded countries.

I had the day off from work, and was sleeping in when my girlfriend at the time called me and told me to turn on the TV. I tuned in and was in shock, thought it was a movie, this couldn't be happening. Then the 1st tower came down. I was numb. People die everyday and it's always a sad occurence, but this day was the single biggest tragedy in our history. I'll never forget it. God bless those who died and their friends and family.

NEVER FORGET.

It was a day none of us will forget. I could never forget

1. I went to the market to get goodies for hubby as it is our Anniversary.

2. I stopped off at Stratton ANG Base to pick up uniform for my son when the first plane hit so we went into full lock down. Took me 2 hrs before a total head count, buildings were secured and perimeter check was done and was escorted off base.

3. I knew there was more happening ( left my cell home ) and my husband was working near the airport. So I was a mess waiting to get home and to hear from him.

God bless america and WE MUST NEVER FORGET !!!!!!!!!!!

That was the morning of my 40th birthday. My wife had taken off that day to spend it with me. We had both gotten up early because my son had to go to school. We were drinking coffee and watching the news together when the first plane hit. I remember thinking at first that it had to be some kind of terrible accident. I didn't know whether to go ahead and walk my son to school, or keep him home where it was safe. In the 10 minutes I was gone, the second plane hit. I walked through the door, and my wife had just seen it happen on TV. We knew it was no accident then, but felt so hopeless. We just watched as both buildings unbelievably just collapsed. I wanted to go back up, and pick up my son from school, but I didn't. Then the other planes started making the news. The one in Penn. and the Pentagon. It felt like the world was ending at the time. I think the whole country was in a state of shock. I know we were. It's hard to believe it was 7 years ago. I think at first it really brought this country closer together, but over the years that has decayed a bit as people have got on with their lives. I for one will never forget all the innocent and brave people that died that day. I'll be 47 on the 11th, so it's easy for me to keep track of the years as they pass. This, and the Oklahoma City bombing, are the saddest two days in my life that I can think of. I also wrote a song about them both.
GOD Bless America !!!!!

I was in my first class sophmore year of high school. Our teacher was making copies in the library. He came running into the class room white as a sheet and told us all to follow him back to the library. When we got there he quickly explained what was going on and we all stood in shocked silence watching the coverage on CNN. Later he herded us back to the classroom and told us "This is a moment you'll never forget." Everyone was sent home about an hour or so later. I have never been that scared in my entire life...just the feeling of not knowing when they were going to strike next.

I was at home with our two youngest son's. They were watching Barney when I received a phone call from my husband, He was quite shaken and in tears. He told me to turn the news on. I remember the sick feeling in my gut when I realized what was going on , and then the 2nd flight hit the 2nd tower and it truly sank in that we were under attack by terrorists. Even my son's that were 2 1/2 and 4 knew something wasn't right burst into tears and my 4 year old said "Mommy, someone's killing us!" Then the other two crashes were being reported. I had friends that died in New York that day and know many people who's lives changed forever after that day. It's a day that not a day goes by that I don't remember those who died that day.
Many thanks to the Men and Women that give their all in Our Armed Forces to Protect us all from evil such as this. My oldest Son being One of them, (U.S. Army Sharp Shooter )
God Bless All of Them and God Bless Us All!
