NEED HELP WITH LIVE TOURNAMENTS

Sep 6, 2008 11:28 pm Report Abuse

Hello birds.

I have my second live MTT i've ever played 2moz, and need some help with reading players.

Apart from seeing down cards that they've played, is there any tips or tricks that you use to find out whether a player is playing loose or tight?

for example if they play over a certain amount of pots in an orbit they're usually playing weaker hands etc....

You can't judge loose or tight very well with that kind of information. They could just be getting good cards. The main thing I look at is how long they take to make a call or to make a bet. Quick calls usually mean a drawing hand where slow calls usually mean they have something already just trying to figure out what to do with it. A quick reraise means a bluff usually. A slow reraise usually means the nutz. Now you also have to take action with observation. Some people know how to be deceptive with this as well. Just watch everything, playing live is the best way to learn and to read people.

Watch what they do with their hands, and watch their posture. After observing them in several situations, you should see a pattern. Play against this pattern, and you should be profitable !

Damn I was hoping there was a simple ABC formula!!! I'm in trouble lol

I play with 3 or 4 of the players regularly and have couple of reads on them.

It's just going to be hard for me to remember the info I get.

Should I be watching the two to my left and the guy to my right first?

LOL if they are the only ones in the pot sure! You really need to pay attention to each player as it is their turn to act. Watch how they take their action and remember it well. Also, when the flop comes, try not to look at it, look at whoever is in the pot with you. Try to get a feel for where you are at before you look at the flop. Good players don't need to know what cards came out, they just need to know what the other players are doing. I have a few tells from watching the pros and if I run up against them I will take full advantage of them. Personally, I do the same thing every hand preflop before, and after I look at my cards. Once I look at my cards, I never look at them again. You will see people look at their cards alot if there are 3 to a flush, but if you don't look and just remember it is more confident. I won't give you all of my secrets, but it is most important to remember how people act and react and to put them on a hand they would do what they are doing. Experience is the only way to get the real feel for playing. GL!!

Well, if anyone cares... I entered the tournament but there were only 12 entries.

We all had one rebuy and/or add on and I used mine for a total of £20 or $40ish buyin

I ended up finishing 2nd in the tournament taking £60 or $120 but the payout wasn't great. 4 players got paid at £20, £40, £60 and £110.

I did ok, reading a couple of people. Folded JJ after getting my button raise, re-raised, I folded an he showed AA.

HU he had a 5 to 1 chip lead
