I am new here and hear about clans. Just curious why join one and what are they?

I HAVE HEARD OF THIS ONE CLAN....(i think it a very secret society) extremely hard to join....SO exclusive that I only know of one member.........this group is not even listed on the listings page and very rarely discussed....
