what is wrong with people?

Sep 4, 2008 3:40 pm Report Abuse

I'm sitting at the Railbirds cash table on FTP last night and I decide to enter a 5.50 9 man SNG. We're down to 5 pretty quickly, and I'm in 3rd, in the BB. UTG limps for 80, and UTG+1 goes all-in for about 1900. Button folds, SB folds, I fold. UTG thinks for a sec and then calls. Raiser shows pocket 8s, and UTG has K 10 os. 8s hit a third on the flop, and he doubles up. No big deal, right? Then the guy on the button starts trashing the caller, saying it was a $#!tty call. I agree, but I say nothing because hey, I lost my BB..big deal. The caller says, hey, it was a coinflip, and the button keeps reaming him, saying, you were on the short end of 60/40 at best. Now, being the numbers man that I am, I say, No, he WAS in a coinflip UNLESS you had some of his outs. Not intending to defend the play or anything, just stating that he DID have 2 overs, so....They go back and forth for a bit, and I tell the button to relax, he wasnt' even in the hand, why tear someone a new one for a hand that you didn't lose chips in? And that's all I say...about 6-7 minutes later the guy who was UTG asks if I even know how to play. I'm confused, so I say.....are you talking to me? and then he starts tearing into me about how I don't know how to play, and I'm a moron, and I'm just a waste of space. Really? Thankfully, I knock him out in 4th, so I felt good about that. But what the hell is wrong with people that they gotta talk smack, even to the ones that help them? Is this what we are now? blehh...

Well, some ppl just wanna trash beacuse they think they are fun and are superior to other players. Now to even complain at a $5,50 game is just silly.

For example I know im better then alot of players but will never trash talk anyone and specially if im not in the hand. I rather explote the fact that some people play with alot less skill.

some people...sorry about that did you win?

The world is full of cool folks, and braying asses. And since we play the world on FT....we get both. I think that sometimes it's frustration-i know a guy who beleives EVERY player who beats him is a donkey.....and he expresses this,, A LOT, hell i don't even like him railing me, cause he can't stop. The other reason is TILT....i have to admit that i have engaged in smack talk on occasion, (nothing like the stupid name calling you describe,) because it's so obvious that dude's on tilt. I try to remember that those guys almost ALWAYS tilt themselves out of their money/

LOL threes...I think so too...gotta compensate somehow right? and I'm thinking, why bite the hand that feeds you? or at least supports your statement. It WAS a bad call...he had no way to know where he stood and the best he could realistically hope for was that he was in a coinflip, but whatever...I took his chippies and his money and that's all that matters!

You see lots of people who play poker have huge egos, small brains, no patience, and well as has been mentioned small other things.

Next time you run into someone like that just say "It's ok I know you're inequipped, insecure, and are trying to feel important but can you keep the whining down we're trying to player poker over here"

minneslim Sep 4, 2008 4:16 pm

ahhh I didn't feel the need to say much...I mean, I have no problem with trash talking and I tend to feel that people who go overboard are A) on tilt, B) trying to tilt others, or C) just a-holes. But it's another thing to turn on someone who only stated that, yes, you DID have a coinflip. Hell, I didn't even say the rest of what I was thinking, which was...BUT you didn't know that and it was a BAD call and I wouldn't have made it in the first place. No, I was nice, and just let that part go....some people's kids

I dislike this sort of players, so usually I just disable chat with them before they make me nervous. Many people think they are good players and that you cannot do anything against them. But most of the time they win money because they push others on tilt. The only way to do is to be patient and not to care about what they say.

Some people just suck
gcrafty Sep 4, 2008 4:28 pm
DON'T YOU JUST LOVE POKER?
LAST NIGHT IN THE H.O.R.S.E TOURNY I WAS CALLED A RETARD AND A DIPCHIT ALL IN ONE HAND
YOU KNOW WHAT I SAY????.....WHOOHOO
I REALLY WISH THEY COULD SEE THE BIG SMILE ON MY FACE
Paladin Sep 4, 2008 4:31 pm
Some idiots like to talk big online. If you were sitting at a live table with these same people, they wouldn't say a word because you are face-to-face with them.
minneslim Sep 4, 2008 4:32 pm

wish you'd let ME put a smile on your face

err...umm...yeah...LOL

I know...I just shake my head, and take their chips, and let my game do the talking! Hopefully it talks over them

minneslim Sep 4, 2008 4:34 pm
very true paladin...no way in hell they'd pull this stuff face to face, but anonymity is a great courage builder!
gcrafty Sep 4, 2008 4:39 pm
LOL SLIM, YOU PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE EVERYDAY
PixelGnome Sep 4, 2008 4:42 pm
If you think you're the best player on the table, then you can be sure of 1 thing - you're not.

People who throw the word 'donk' around alot are like those who throw the word 'homo' around alot - Usually one themselves
PixelGnome Sep 4, 2008 4:44 pm
you must also remember that trash talk can often be a good way to put an opponent on tilt. I don't usually call people on their play - partly because I am almost certainly not as good as them, and talking about play may reveal this fact to them.

However I am quite capable of calling people names if I think it will get money put my way.

All's fair in love and war.
minneslim Sep 4, 2008 4:46 pm

you're too sweet g..and now I'm blushing LOL

beng0001000 Sep 4, 2008 4:47 pm

as soon as people start talking trash or start trying to teach me how to play etc...at the table i just go to the menu and block all chat. That way they can keep talking crap till the cows come home and lose focus on the game while i light up a fat boy, listen to a bit of slim dusty and play poker - in an environment i like, free of idiots!!

minneslim Sep 4, 2008 4:56 pm
pixel, maybe I'm just old fashioned...I just wish there was honor among theives...I know I'm asking too much :-)
