Unbelievable bad beat at the WSOP

Sep 4, 2008 5:38 am Report Abuse

I saw this this afternoon on ESPN but it was probably shown last night. Watched a guy lose with 4 Aces to a Royal flush. The river ace made both hands. The announcer said it was about 3 billion to one against having a Royal Flush and Quad A's at the same table.

OK. lets see someone top that one.

I believe that was the first time that combination of hands was ever caught in a televised event. I have read a story Doyle Brunson told in one of his books about it occurring in a prior tournament.

Not sure that the quoted odds are factual for the circumstance, but likely the odds of it ever occurring. However, there would be a longer shot at catching the same hands. One player held pocket aces and the other had KJ suited. If the player holding pocket aces held only one ace and caught 3 on the board and the other player had KJ suited just like in the instant hand, the odds would be longer than as this hand played.

Yeah, that was absolutely ridiculous. Can't believe that happened.

Unbelievable bad beat at the WSOP

Unbelievable COOLER at the WSOP

But indeed that was the cooler of all coolers, real sick hand. Too bad there isn't a jackpot.

Cyber it seems to me that the odds of getting one hand times the odds of getting the other (with some adjustments for shared cards etc ) would be the odds. Since I believe that the announcer's voices are added later it would have been possible to check the actual odds but I have no idea if they are as stated.
