STORY OF MY FIRST STR8 FLUSH

Sep 3, 2008 2:34 am Report Abuse

Ok OK after some cajoling I have decided to do a blog on my first tournament and my first straight flush. A little background first ( of course I can't ever do the readers digest condensed version ).

I had gotten a job dealing Blackjack at a small card casino, 5 tables small, and all of us new dealers were interested in playing holdem. We started a home game and talked the establishment into opening a poker table. So up to my first tourney at the casino, Six Card Charlies in Long Beach WA., I had never played tourney style and the extent of my experience was the quarter, fifty cent limit game that we had been playing. I had , however been dealing it for a couple of weeks. That said, I was a bit nervous and had been dreaming about a monster with people betting into me.

Here is what transpired in my first live casino tourney 3 hands in we started with 2,000 each blinds are 25-50..............

One more thing, these are all people who's first names I know, I deal to them every week and I work here.

I have the big blind... UTG calls and UTG 2 calls, the rest of the table fods around to the small blind who calls and I look down at 8 6 spades, a hand that in most positions I may have tossed and I check.

The flop 4 5 7 spades. O MY GOD , the absolute NUTS !!!! These aren't butterflies, these are those huge moths that you see only on the Discovery channel that I get as I try to stay composed. The first thought I have is, did i do anythig that might tip anyone off when the flop hit ??? I , calmly as I can, look slowly around the table to see if any sees what may have been there to see LOL. I notice nothing out of the ordinary as the small blind checks to me. I take a peek at my cards to insure I have what I think I have and sure enough, I got a straight flush 4 - 8, the monster. I look up and straight ahead with a slight sigh and say " check ".

UTG bets 200, UTG 2 raises to 400, small blind folds as I am sporting wood. My turn, I peek again and say " call". So does UTG. At this point I am saying to myself if this is a dream don't even wake me up.

Turn card is another spade, the jack I think, and I am first action..... " check". UTG bets out 400, UTG 2 raises to 800... it is all I can do to contain myself, I want to do back flips, I want to shout at the world " IT DOESNT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS WORLD, NO SEX, NO DRUG, NADA CAN COMPARE TO THIS !!!!! " I figdet in my seat a bit and say.......... " call " as does UTG.

River

A king of diamonds comes, action is to me.... I look down at what is left of my starting chips and say...All in. I get looks of WTF from both remaining players, apparently my charade has worked.
They BOTH call and the dealer says" show the winner"

LIke a commercial for FullTilt, I flip my cards in the air with a little spinning flourish and as they float to the felt, I say the first thing that comes to mind from my home game, " Send it motherf%^&er cause I got the NUTS ".

To say the grin on my face was huge could only be emphasized by saying the chesire cat is a punk. I hear some OOOO's and AWWWW's and literally hear the wind fly out of their sails with a audible whooosh. The dealer pushes me a mountain of chips.

Of course a round of NH's comes as My boss, the owner of the casino comes over and takes a look. I look him in the eye and ask , knowing it wont be possible, if I could get a copy of the servailance tape on that hand because that is porbably the best hand I will ever play.

NO , I didn't win or place in the tourney, it was only 2 tables big too. I did, however go on to have a record of 4/8 all first places at that little casino. I even was the owners nemisis as he never won a hand against me and we were HU twice for the win and he usually beat me in the ring game.
Side Note, my first hand in a live casino game was quad Kings, tell me why I am addicted.

The next week they started a High Hand payout!

Peace, Jodey

Nice story Jodey

Always a rush ain't it?

This is my first and only straight flush in a casino. Had had them at home and bar games before.....

limp in from UTG with 78 diamonds.....next position minraises..and calls all around the table.....7 of the nine see the flop.....$28 in the pot..... flop is 569.....all diamonds....ROFFLMAO.....I almost have an orgasm.....and decide almost immediatley to play like a fish. SB and BB check.....I decide to pump the pot and toss in $5 raise.....3 call and one fold.....the SB raises it another 25 to 30.....BB folds and 2 of us call and 2 fold.....so three of us see the turn with $128 in the pot.....the turn is an off suit face card (I dont remember exactly.....lol.....too damn excited).....BB checks.....I bet 65$.....which is about half the chips I have left and I am short stack in the hand.....last to act calls and then BB thinks hard and folds.....pot is at ~$260.....river brings another null card.....Last to act who has me covered easily says "if you check I'll check and won't wipe you out".....I go all in and then last to act calls.....he stands up shows his hand A10 of diamonds and says "nut flush noob" with an evil grin .....I say "look again Mr poker pro that isn't the nut flush.....this is".....and I show the str8 flush. Table goes crazy...as I grin evilly back at him and rake in the $400 pot.....

The next hand was almost as priceless.......

You can read about it in my blog:
