Open letter to Railbirds.com

Dear Railbirds,

I'm writting you this letter because i have a few unanswered questions.

Last year, I won the Railbirds Real Money Rankings, I was fighting for a 12K package for the WSOP 2008. I was very happy and greatfull to have givin the opportunity to compete for such a prize and am greatfull for the experience it allowed me to gather. Without such a prize, i dont think i would of lived such a wonderfull experience.

Last month, I wrote a blog asking a few questions to Railbirds, none of these questions got answered. The two principal questions where: What is the 2008 RMR and Freeroll Yearly prizes and Will we ever have a Railbirds store. Here is the link to this blog: http://www.railbirds.com/blog/192295/questions-for-railbirds.html

Im am pressing on this subject for a multitude of reasons. I dont think it is fair for Railbirds members to sacrifice time and money for a prize that is a mistery to them, if i dint know what i was fighting for las year i would not have made all the sacrifices i've made to win it. I have canceled many outings to be able to play as many games as I could, ive spend many hours studying my opponents and pondering on my strategie to win, i did all this because i knew it was worth it for me, that 12K package was my goal and i sacrificed alot to achieve it.

With 2/3 of the season already over, and a tight race at the front, people are starting to get nervous and are starting to beleive in their chances at that prize. But what prize are we talking abt? I dont think its fair for all the front runners to be running in the dark, they are spending alot of time and energy for that top spot, it is time Railbirds reveal what they have in store for these winners.

The fact that 3 weeks have gone by with no answer to my questions leave the intentions of Railbirds open to interpretations and can have our imagination Run wild. Personally all this worry's me, yes it does and it does worry me ALOT!

Infobird has stated at the beginning of the year to be patient and that the prizes should be annouce around March like it did last year. 6 months have gone by and not one peep abt the prizes. Not even a "be patient guys we are working on something". I find this really odd that Railbirds announces a Competition with a yearly winner prize but doesnt announce what the prize is. I trully hope their is no hidden agenda behind this secrecy. I told you imaginations can run wild.

You must ask yourselves why im pressing the subject when im not even in the running this year, well the answer is simple, most of the front runners are my friends and i know what they are going thrue, the stress and all and i want them to be able to fight with a clear mind. I know they dont want to sturr the waters with this because they might be afraid of a ban or something, so i decided on my own will, without even discussing it with my friends to step up to the plate and ask the questions people are affraid to ask.

Railbirds, it is time for answers, all i ask for is fair, i ask railbirds to be fair and honest and for them to step up to the plate and honor their part of the deal, you cannot offer something and keep it a secret, makes us wonder if prizes will change according to winner.

Please give us answers promply.

I will ask all birds that will comment on this blog to please do so in a polite and proper manner, i dont want to give Railbirds.com any excuse to lock this blog and brush it under the carpet, the more replys we get (intelligent ones) the faster we will get some answers.

TC Birds,

Manny

yes.....you'd think by they'd know what it is they are gonna offer up for prizes

given that last years prize was what it was.....I'd imagine that this years would be something very valuable...

I can only imagine that with the increased membership that click through and ad revenues are higher and therefore they would be able to offer at least as much if not more than last year

Great blog and thank-you for writing it. I posed a question a few mos. ago in regards to the freeroll year end prize and had contemplated going after it and was told it would be announced shortly, just waiting on graphics to display it. I'm sure the prizes will be great but must be tough for those who are in contention for it with all the sacrifices they'd be needing to make (big committment for sure). I opted out of the race in the 'free' ranking myself,... preferring to play the tourneys when I feel like it and not wanting to use up all my poker time on them.

Good Luck to those who are battling it out in the Leaderboards!!! GO HEMISPORT!!!!

Well, I'll dip my toe in this dangerous current, your zeal and vigor in this quest is wonderful to see Manny

I would just ask that the wonderful people who work for this site could quell this discussion by giving the members an update as to whether a prize is being worked on and as many details as they can say on the prize, Thanks to all the Prorails and can't wait to hear the response.

Good luck in your quest Manny.

the only reason I'm not in first place right now, (currently 598th lol ) is cause I dont know what I'm playin' for

(some people say I'm sarcastic...I don't know why)

Well Champ1 you and me have been on here about the same timeframe and you were one of the first people I added to my friends list almost a year ago. I think we can both agree historically Railbirds.com has been dreadfully slow at announcing prizes. So while I think they will put the kaibosh on this post, I do hope they respond to you in some manner. GL.

AMEN !!! Thats all i'm saying due to my 2 or 3 or 4 strikes I already have.
PapaPower Sep 2, 2008 8:16 pm

Thank you Manny for all of the effort you have put into this nagging question.

Although the chances of me winning this year are long gone, I too would like to have RB Admin give up an 'update' on these questions. Although the prize may not be finalized, it would be reassuring to read a statement that it has not been forgotten. As for the Railbirds Store, my question is 'Why Not'???. Since Railbirds.com is a 'for profit' organization, it would make sense to enter into some agreement with a merchandiser to provide goods to purchasers and increase profits for the owners of RB.

Did not know there was a prize...prize for what? I'm new here. Good luck to all.
CyberSleuth7 Sep 2, 2008 8:26 pm
Nice blog. The greater issue is why the users of this site have thoughts that there will be some sort of retribution for simply asking an obvious question. What kind of culture is admin promoting when it users believe it is unapproachable and apparently retaliatory?
bigpoppaboats Sep 2, 2008 8:28 pm

Yeah what he said

Peace, Jodey

Follow the yellow-brick road! Follow the yellow-brick road! At the end of the journey a man from behind the curtain will let you know what you won. I personally think it's a handful of magic beans :P

Anyways, I think everyone here knows you are right about this. You are right to state your opinion but I think if this issue heats up the heat will be turned up on you as well. I don't think anyone at railbirds has bad intentions but something went wrong along the way. People just want to know. I hope this doesn't get ugly. Maybe this convo will stir up the waters enough to get an answer.

Remember this, Railbirds is GIVING this prize away, whatever it may be lol. They did promise a prize though and I can see why people would start getting upset over it. Perhaps the people in charge could come up with a deadline that says by this date we will have your answer. Hopefully it would be within the next seven to fourteen days. I hope everything works out for both railbirds and the people playing for the prize.

Manny,
I have the same questions. I don't play in nearly enough RMR tournaments as I should to be in competition for the year-end prize. My lack of play is more due to my job rather than not knowing what the prize is. However, I am actually less inclined to play when I can because I don't know what it is I am playing for.
Right now, my goal is to stay in the top 100 to get into the monthly freerolls. I know what I'm playing for in that case. So, being someone who is competing, but not diligently, I can imagine a "bad" situation.....
Imagine that someone is playing under the assumption that it will be another WSOP entrance. If they live in the states, but are phobic of flying then that wouldn't be an issue. However, if the prize is entrance into a European tournament, they are in trouble and will have to settle for something else. That would be terrible.
Just my two cents for the powers-that-be to consider.

This thought actually crossed my mind yesterday as I was trying to tell someone about this web site. My computer was dead for 7 weeks and my rankings dropped out of the top 100, and when I told him how I had worked my butt off and now I am in 20th, he asked what I would get for that. I kind of felt silly cause I could not tell him. I told him what last years prize was, but had to admit I could not be sure what this years was or will be. I hope he signs up anyway, but he kind of gave me an off look when I could not tell him what the prize is. I trust the site to do what they can to deliver a great prize, but I have to admit I hope they post it soon. I can imagine many reasons they could not post it yet, so I am not worried. But I SURE would like to know myself. I do admit, I have a HECK of a ways to go to catch up to first place. Better watch your backs, I'm coming up fast. :P LOL Just kidding.

I love the site, and I look forward to it all.

Champ =a person who fights for or defends any person or cause.

Well said!!!

buick60 Sep 2, 2008 9:19 pm
Sit down and do the math at how much it costs to play every RMR.The total is considerable.Your ITM % has to be really high just to recoup the money payed out.
JadedJude Sep 2, 2008 9:34 pm

Well said Champ

Buick you are exactly right, in order to stay at the top, one has to play nearly every RMR, it can get expensive...

I can totally understand wanting to know what the "prize" is, people have a lot of time and money invested in this "goal".

Good luck at the tables.

jroyfus Sep 2, 2008 9:41 pm

Champ well said sir.

when this started again this year after watching you take last years i had set a goal for myself and i too started out well. but after watching several blogs get swept under the rug and still no prize announced i kinda got lost.

i actually had worked out a deal with my JOB to work swimg hrs so i could play in these everyday and have a good chance to maybe accomplish the goal but when it came down to it i couldnt do it cause the main prize has still not been announced. i am currently in 19th place and have fallen way behind so i will not contend this time unless i play and money every one but that wont happen now cause i have a job and its to late to ask for a 2nd chance now at having a swing shift to attempt this.

to those that are fighting to bring this home gl 2 u all and i hope that RB's soon announces the prize so you dont fall like i did.

cheers

da evil clowny
