When Is A Full House Not One?

Aug 28, 2008 7:02 pm Report Abuse

When you play on Pokerstars. I'm playing a pot limit Omaha tournament. It's the first hand. I'm in seat 9, next to the button. I'm dealt Railbirds card: 3h Railbirds card: Ah Railbirds card: 2d Railbirds card: Ks No raises, we see a flop. Railbirds card: 6s Railbirds card: Kc Railbirds card: Ac Top two pair. Must watch the flush draw. Someone bets 40, called around and someone raises to 60. I and two others call. Turn comes Railbirds card: Kh. Flush matters not! I've made my full house right? Someone bets out and gets a call, then I raise pot. After some thinking on each person's part they all fold. I show my boat.

As the next hand ends a guy says he folded the nut flush. This hand or last? Nut flush? Why would he fold it? He was in the hand and folded to a small raise. Maybe he meant draw. I ask if he meant this hand or the one where I had a full house? He replied with FH, which I took as "first hand". Maybe he meant "full house", who knows. I told him even if he was on a draw to the nut flush it was no good. He asked me to explain to him where I had a full house. I told him to look at the hand history, I showed the boat. He tells me he doesn't think I know how to play Omaha. I did not have a full house. Someone else chimes in with the same. I'm so confused, now two people say I didn't have a full house.... ?

I start thinking about that popular video of Tony G at the RiverBelle berating his opponent when his Railbirds card: 7d Railbirds card: 9d sucked out on the river against the guy's Railbirds card: Kc Railbirds card: Kh. He kept talking about how he played it like a set. "Even I thought I had a set. I did have a set!" he said over and over.

So, no amount of convincing was working. My full house had not been one in their eyes. One of them called me a noob. Maybe that was the strategy. Get me so riled up I play bad. It worked. Out of spite I moved in with a set of 9s and an Ace against a guy's rivered wheel to knock myself out. I've gone back and looked at the hand history where it says:
Uncalled bet (540) returned to 5cardmonkey
5cardmonkey collected 540 from pot
5cardmonkey: shows 3hAh2dKs (a full house, Kings full of Aces)
But I'm still not sure I had a full house..

In Omaha you have to use two and only two of your hold cards, therefore if you had:

3hAh2dKs

with the board of on the turn:

Railbirds card: 6s Railbirds card: Kc Railbirds card: Ac Railbirds card: Kh

Then yes, you have a boat.. you use your Railbirds card: AhRailbirds card: Ks with the Railbirds card: Kc Railbirds card: Ac Railbirds card: Kh and that equals Kings full of Aces

Obviously you had the boat... it would seem to me that the 2 other ppl involved were either talking about the current hand and not your boated hand... either that, or they were "friends" where one was just stickin up of the other... do not let anyone take u off your game and do not let anyone make you second guess yourself.... i know it's easier said than done, but give it time.. you know full well you had the FH and even if you didn't have the boat, you took down the pot... so screw the other 2 flunkies...

BTW, the last line is me being me. I know I had the boat I was just so damned determined to make those two morons understand, it took my concentration away from the play.

I don't get it, you had a full house????

just kidding.

If people can put you on tilt that easily, maybe you should turn chat off.

Actullay I think it was a different hand they are talking about and usually FH means full house not first hand. Probably was just a miscommunication that got out of hand. Never let table chatter throw you off your game!! GL!!

hehehe I got confused by what was typed after the tittle. To answer the tittle my answer would be when you have double quads. Has a fancy name involving house but its still quads.

I had a "lady" sit in the lobby and scream at me for an hour in

omaha a few nights ago , she had Railbirds card: Jh in her hand

and the board flopped 3 hearts , I had Railbirds card: KhRailbirds card: Qh in my hand and

the Railbirds card: Ah was on the board , well the turn brought a 4 th heart so

she called all the way to the river and then sat there

screaming that I stole half her pot ??? ,she had an Ace high

flush too according to her so we should split it lol ,

tried saying even if she had a flush I had the nut flush , tried explaining it's 2 and 3 from the board so she didn't even

have a Jack high flush , she called me every name in the

book and gave quite a list of things I could go do to

myself lmaoo , I'm female too so half those things aren't even

possible for me to do lmaoo ,

just ignore rude people and take their chips with a smile ,gl

There are people playing Omaha who haven't clued in yet to the fact that unless you have two of a suit in the pocket with three of that same suit on the board, you don't have a flush. Period.

As for your boat, I see it. Full steam ahead.

(Of course, you can have more than two suited cards to a flush in the hole, but only two of them play)

They may have been just trying to throw you off of your game by causing a little doubt in your mind.
MichaelRedd43 Aug 28, 2008 11:01 pm
Um... I can't believe you actually think this might not be a full house... if the hand history tells you for sure its a full house then it is one... 90% of poker players don't know how to play so I would never listen to anyone if I were you
diceshooter Aug 30, 2008 12:54 am

well duh, ya had the full house... but why did you let those guys get to you?

If they really thought you did not have a boat than you were at the perfect table.
