RAINBOW RIDDLE #5

You have a barrel of oil, and you need to measure out just one gallon. How do you do this if you only have a three-gallon container and a five-gallon container?

lol jandlhart8 that answer sounds like a google

Fill the 3-gallon container with oil and pour it into the 5-gallon container. Then fill the 3-gallon container again and use it to fill the 5-gallon container the rest of the way. One gallon will be left in the 3-gallon container.

Fill 3 gal container, wiegh it, divide wieght by 3, pour oil into 5 gal contianer until 3 gal container wieghs what you cme up with when dividing wieght.

That way you don't have an extra 5 gals. of oil.

Lloydinho77 Aug 29, 2008 5:31 pm

hold the 3 gallon container against the 5 gallon container so that the top of each container is level. Then using a sharp rock or laser pen slice the 5 gallon container along the line of the bottom of the 3 gallon container. Leaving you a 2 gallon container.

Then hold your new 2 gallon container against the 3 gallon container so the top of each container is level. Slice along the line of the bottom of the 2 gallon container and hey presto you have a 1 gallon container!!!

Theres the easy way, Then theres my way (H)

Why measure out one gallon of oil when you can do it over and over again?

Fcumred Aug 29, 2008 5:40 pm

Some people are being too methodical.

Take the three litres and fill it. Tip that into the 5 litre drum

There is now 2 litres of space left in the 5 litre drun

Refill the 3 litre drum and use it to fill up the 5 litre drum ( it will take 2 litres )

Therefore you have 1 litre left in the 3 litre drum
