not much you can do, this guy calls off with an under pair to the board WTF and of course he hits the 2 outer needed to win the hand. Im never suprised at the hands people are willing to call with !!

I would shove aces preflop heads up. A PP is a really strong hand heads up, so the player calling with 4 4 is not too unreal. The player probably thought you were racing and took the chance and was way behind unknown to them. I think you were destined to lose this hand as not much you could do to get a player off a pocket pair in a heads up situation.

oh my bad didnt notice that all the money went in preflop but still pocket 4s he is at best 50 50!! I guess he figured he had the chips to play a coin flip with LOL but in my opinion its an ez fold with 4s all he had in the pot was 400 chips

Here's something I read in a book about poker: "You must constantly adjust to these players and that pot". You went all in with pocket rockets and lost end of the story it will happen 1 out of 5 times preflop against a single opponent closer to 50-50 with multiple opponents. Now take a look at the flop and imagine if you had just made a normal raise. he would have still called you but then you'll have bet the pot and more often than not the player with pocket 4's will fold with that board. It's poker we all live and learn shake it off and move on.

You were HU and got the moeny in with the absolute best hand possible preflop and got sucked out on, in my oppinion you did everything right.

so standard, well played.
goodwooter Aug 21, 2008 1:14 am

thanks for your opinion chip, thats what i keep considering but i read sohails point above yours and i think he is absolutely correct....he prolly calls the preflop 5x the BB bet and doesnt hit the flop...i go all in post flop and he likely folds...and thanks to others for your comments as well and others would be appreciated

I would have played it a little differently but if I could have gotten all my chips in the middle preflop and know that I was going to get action, there's no doubt I'd do it. The only think I would have done differently is maybe raised it up to about 1000-1200 preflop and waited to see what my opponent did after that. If he comes over the top, of course you push since you've got him committed to the pot by this time and even if he folds, you take down a decent sized pot. If he calls, you can push on the flop and he'll have to fold with 3 overcards to his pocket pair or still call you if he puts you on something like AK. Any time you can get all your money in preflop with the rockets and get action you should do it because worst case scenario, you're still better than a 75% favorite to win the hand no matter what your opponent has (excluding the other two aces in the deck). It's always easy to go back and criticize yourself when the hand doesn't work out but in a heads up situation, there's no better chance you can give yourself other than getting all the money in preflop with the nuts.

I make this play over and over then think daaaaaaamn! I'm trying to get the discipline to just call the raise then play them post-flop. IMO, unless you're short-stacked all-in pf is not a good move no matter what you're holding, you have nowhere to go and no control over the size of your win/loss. For me, I know I'm hoping they will either fold or my hand will hold, not much skill in that.
Sblounskched Aug 21, 2008 2:06 am
Sorry AngryDragon, but I disagree in this situation. In a heads up match, unless there's a ridiculously scary board (all suited and you don't have the right ace for it, for example) you're not going to be able to get away from the hand. If you can get the chips all-in while you're ahead, go for it and hope the hand holds up.
