whats the problem?

Aug 20, 2008 10:15 pm Report Abuse

Why is everyone in here so offended by scotty?

He played the way he usually does. He talks so much you never know what he has. He gets inside your head and waits for you to mess up. The only problem I saw was his cussing. But do not try to pretend like each one of you sits down at a poker table and get frustrated because you lose a hand. Or because the beverage server has not come around in a little bit. Lets be real before we start criticizing his play!

Plus if you cant put this down as your stats you have no place to criticize him!

Rule number 36 of the WSOP and the WSOP not enforcing it is the problem.

""Excessive celebration through extended theatrics, inappropriate behavior, or physical actions, gestures, or conduct may be subject to penalty."

When did they give Scotty a penalty? T.V would have shown that.

CHEERS!!! u arent kidding... where do we get off criticizing any pros play??? i see ppl all the time diss'ng this pro or that pro... i'm sure we all have our favorites and agree with certain styles of play vs. others, but really, these ppl are pros for a reason...

everyones entitled to their opinion but what good does it serve to criticize??
GOOBERDOOF Aug 20, 2008 10:37 pm
button,

its based on the moderators definition of "excessive"...
jp5457 Aug 20, 2008 10:39 pm
Button how many times have you seen them enforce penalties on people because they have sworn or done over celebrations.
Humberto uses little sharks with lights. Hevad stands up and goes ohhh ahhh ohhh ahhh. Hatchem and his cheering section.

Yes poker has gotten out of hands with the celebrations. But you cant get mad because they did not enforce it on one if they are not going to force it on all.

And the Demichelle and Lindgreen both swore at some points in the telecast.

I was somewhat sickened and saddened by how he portrayed himself in such an honorable event.

scotty is cool, i like to watch him on the tables

Notice that I said the WSOP not enforcing it is the problem. I didn't lay the blame on Scotty for being a drunk at the table, I laid the blame on the WSOP for not enforcing it.

The pro's on the side line should not have been allowed into the playing area either. They were as bad as, if not worse than Scotty. There must have been several of them that were just as drunk as he was and not acting like professionals show casing their professional.

It is television images like that that is making it hard on the PPA to get the electronic transfers ban lifted.

Plus if you cant put this down as your stats you have no place to criticize him! ..... Come on now, everyone, even non poker players are entitled to state their opinion of a television broadcast, and the people featured in it ! That's like saying I can't say Conan O'brien is a red headded jerk, because I don't make 3.5 million dollars a year !

.....play on ....Tc.....

I get the feeling that ESPN decided to edit a major portion of what had brought up the confrontation at the first place. If that kid was so inocent than why did he keep apologizing. I am all for a certain code of conduct. But let's enforce it universally to all players. I can not sit here and call Scotty all sorts of names and forget about Helmutt's and matusaw's stuff. How about that moron a couple of years ago I think his name was Anderson yelling his ass off every hand and sure enough last year it was Hevad Khan's turn. Could ESPN have some fault in this through their idiotic editing process and post tournament announcers.. How about Chad, is he really needed as an announcer for wsop? how about someone that has some poker experience to replace him. I truly believe that when it comes to poker ESPN should make available the entire session for people to see the entire situation. But, if we are going to ignore all these issues then I believe Scotty was well within his rights to kick that kid around some. I am more shocked by a great player named lindgren to lose his composure and lose earlier than he should have. I wonder how many pros are sitting around wondering: "so this is how you can get under Lindgren's skin". Poker has gone long enough with the rule of the jungle. It's time to make some serious rules that will apply to all. But, this would hardly be Scotty's fault. He was just re-acting to a situation that he was either going to get walked over or he was going to walk over the other guy. Well, he decided, to walk ove rthe other guy. Point made and championship won. And, oh by the way how many of you people have been drunk and won the hardest tournament in the face of the planet?

Don't think it was his play but more so his conductand lack of character
jp5457 Aug 21, 2008 12:01 am
Ok TC. I respect you a lot but that comment made no since. I understand that everyone has a right to free speech. But to criticize the game play of a proving professional is kind of pointless.

I actually went to watch this video after seeing some of the blogs today.. so I will throw my two cents in..

I love Scotty, and watch him play at every opportunity, part of the reason I like him is his cocky attitude ! He let the alcohol fuel his anger at the kid.. and I am sure he will be embarrassed that he did.. He still is a affable, lovable guy he just had too much beer and too much of a punk kid.

As far as the kid.. he did what most 23 years old would do when running with the big dogs.. showed his ass.. he took a bow every hand, he acted like a .. a punk kid.. he will learn a valuable lesson.. don't piss in the Big dogs yard!

Eric.. as always a gentleman!!!.... He had to contend with both a drunk and pissed off Scotty and a Kid who just got scolded on national T.V..... he is truly a patient man
