I watched it on ESPN last night. What an embarrasment! Scotty has always been a fun character to watch, but when you push Edog over the edge then you KNOW you've gone to far.
americangypsy13 Aug 20, 2008 4:34 pm
wow, what an embarrassment for poker and nguyen ..... there's a reason embarrassment is spelled with an a s s
topcat1954 Aug 20, 2008 4:34 pm

Thanks for posting this, I hadn't seen it yet, and yes, it is a disgusting performance by a drunk, and he should be ashamed !

.....play on ....Tc.....

babyeagle Aug 20, 2008 4:35 pm
yeah i watched that too. He was one of my favorite players to watch before that. Now he just looks like another player with way too big of an ego. But then again i've played drunk with my friends and been belligerent also. It was brutal to watch but I think he can redeem himself.
tahuneleader Aug 20, 2008 4:38 pm
i have yet to see it but i have dealt with drunks most of my life. my grandpa was the worst ,it got so bad one time i ended up driving my grandmother to a show in canada at 11 pm .
Phoo Aug 20, 2008 4:44 pm
I watched it on ESPN also. I've never seen Scotty like that. Like MD said he's always been fun to watch.
DonkSlayer82 Aug 20, 2008 4:47 pm
he is pathetic
ButtonDog Aug 20, 2008 4:54 pm
Those drunk pro's on the rail were doing nothing but encouraging Scotty. Don't forget about them in the process.

This is another case of what the WSOP considered good television getting in the way of them enforcing their own rules.

Way to represent poker to the world all you drunk pro's.

Look for this to be used as an excuse for all of those internet drunks behaving in the same way in our tournaments.

Full Tilt should have had a representative walk up to the final table and remove that Full Tilt hat from Scotty's head.

I saw this last year. This was the reason he had that historic meltdown from chip leader to out in 11th at the Main Event. Go back and watch him. He's stone-cold drunk.
He didn't look good at all, on ESPN last night, either. Cheeks were flush and he looked like he had some kind of rash.
It was embarrassing to watch.

Can't imagine sponsors not sanctioning him...
PapaPower Aug 20, 2008 9:13 pm

Oh how quickly we cast stones and judge people.

Yes, Scotty got drunk and made an ass outta himself. But who did he hurt? Nobody but himself. He didn't commit any crimes and yet there are soooo many people who want to string him up from the rafters.

Anyone ever thought that maybe this guy has a drinking problem and needs HELP, not ridicule?

As far as his reputation being tarnished and losing sponsorships deals, think again. His drawing power will increase because people will be watching him even more now, looking for more justification to bury him. And the sponsors will profit by it. Just look at what happened to John Daly.

I think Scotty did a great job getting the other guys off their game and i believe that is what he was doing. I also think tha the WSOP is partly to blame as they normally would penalize a player that is out of line by sending them to the rail, for a period, they probably did not do this because it was a final table. I say great job by Scotty and he proved why he is one of the best players in the world.
Codimis Aug 20, 2008 9:37 pm
It wasnt that bad, give me a break. 95% of the time he is just fine, maybe he had something going on in his head that night. That man has had some messed up stuff happen to him in his life, things you and I could never even come close to relating 2, and the fact he isnt always like this is an accomplishment in my opinion. Go Scotty! U f'n RULE
Codimis Aug 20, 2008 9:39 pm
Just read poppa powers comment also. i agree 100%. give me a break people. and to call him pathetic?????????????? the man is one of the best poker players ever. if he is pathetic, what does that make u? nonexistant?
watchdog26 Aug 20, 2008 9:43 pm

Scotty is Scotty, love him or hate him, but you can't judge him. I have heard many first hand accounts about players that you would never expect to do certain things, and yet they did. He is human just like everyone esle. He has his demons, but that doesn't make him any less of a player or person.

Nobody is perfect, let's all get off the high horse being ridden today

I wish I could get drunk and make ass of myself and still end up winning the hardest tournament in poker. Could it be that ESPN edited all the other parts and decided to make Scotty look like a complete fool? If Scotty was all that drunk he would not have been able to win that tournament. I think he was trying to teach that kid and his entorage a good lesson. And, that he accomplished. I have always been against editing wsop tournaments. I believe they should make available the entire final table tape so people can make a good judgement about situations like this.
mrfury Aug 20, 2008 10:00 pm
I usually don't mind Scotty aside from him constantly saying baby. However last night I believe he was out of line and no one can really say he wasn't. He is a good player and I respect his play, but that type of behavior is uncalled for.

I just finished watching Scotty taking young DeMichele to task for his youthful habit of pandering to his posse and for his slightly annoying habit of celebrating a win. Didn't quite understand why Scotty was so upset. Then I watched part two of the game and I'm aghast!

I know alcohol can make you act differently than normal, but that was embarrasing. Scotty made a fool of himself and so did the WSOP. No one should be allowed to use that type of language on a final table, even if it's Scotty and on tv. No one should act like that at all. I tip my hat to young DeMichele for maintaining his cool when many of us would blow our tops. The youngster acted with class and played his hardest.

Scotty giving up a hand to keep an opponent in the game. Shameful. His language; attrocious. His play was sloppy and it was pure luck that he rivered so many wins.

I no longer am a fan of Scotty Nguyen. His good nature is, at best, a false front he puts on to please... at worst it's a lie.
