I wont be rooting for Scotty Nguyen anymore

Aug 20, 2008 4:12 am Report Abuse

I'm watching the coverage of the WSOP HORSE championship. I can not believe how Scotty Nguyen acted at the final table. This year the event had even more meaning than the two yrs before b/c of Chip Reese's passing. Chip is my fav poker play and this event is my fav out of all of them. I really wanted a pro to win the event this yr, but unfortunately Scotty was the pro to win it all. He acted with very low class and poker etiquette. He bashed DeMichelle for celebrating hands and slow rolling. After others (including Lingren) pointed this out, he toned it down. Scotty however, continued to drink which in turned made his antics worse than DeMichelle's. Scotty harrassed others at the table, had his railbirds coming to the table, showed his cards to the crowd while they were still in play, swore at everyone, and generally showed less professionalism than anyone at the table. He was completely out of line. Even Lindgren who is pretty low keyed as a player started to hate him. I will not root for him anymore. I felt bad for him last yr when you choked out of the main event but I wont feel bad for him anymore. I really wish the winner was someone who played well and showed class. Because that's what Chip was all about.

Mouth just said this on FTP:

"Mike Matusow: he worked yrs for everyone in the world to love
him and with them 2 hrs they destoyed him"

Mike partly backed Scotty in his main event win. Shows how much fellow pros lost respect for the guy.

Say goodbye to your nice guy rep Scotty.

As I said before, he got bleeped more the ozzie guillen..

Atleast 40 times. But her did win the bracelet.

I watched that too. I mean has Scotty forgotten all the times in the past that he's played to the crowd, all the times that he's show boatted? Lindgren had already spoke to DeMichelle about his bows and did it in a polite manner. DeMichelle said he would stop and he did and then Scotty, after a few beers of course, just starts berating DeMichelle needlessly and then after that goes on to show poor etiquete himself. It would have been one thing if DeMichelle was continuing to take bows and what not but he stopped and appologized to everyone for it and that should have been the end of it.

welcome to the real scotty nguyen... i'd heard a few stories in the past, but because scotty was portrayed as the "prince of poker" he was always the good guy... but when erick lindgren says "I aint on team Scotty and I never will be" theres a problem as erick comes off as a real nice guy and scotty has always come off as a douche imo... whatever really though. he won and will continue to act liek this, but with less fans im sure! good job on showing the REAL scotty! now every1 knows what ur like when ESPN doesnt have any tape to manipulate to make u look good!

I am glad they didnt edit it all out. I think more people should know how he acted. I heard about this stuff when it happened. But I wanted to wait to make a decision about him until I saw it on tv.

Ironman Aug 20, 2008 4:51 am
Doesnt anyone here understand playing poker at all? Scotty did what he had to, to get the other players off of their game. Grow up. He was not there to win Most Popular Poker Player, he was there to WIN!
I am just saying
Bob_Saget_is_God Aug 20, 2008 4:54 am
To be honest if I was him wouldn't care that much. To a certain extent. Sounds like Scotty just lost all the fans he made when poker was made a 'spectator sport' . He didn't have all these fans when he won the main event. He did act like an asshole but in reality poker players don't play for their fans they play for themselves.
Fanch Aug 20, 2008 5:00 am

whatever bob and Ironman . Totally unacceptable !!!! Period! I have NO respect for this prick now!! Did u not noice his rudeness, and foul language last year at the Main Event? This is the real him, and don't blame it on beer!

He drinks on a regular basis! He berated Mike DeMichelle for bowing, Mike apologized with class, and Scotty than went on to celebrate , and taunt, etc ,etc what a hypocrie and a joke!

RockstarPoker Aug 20, 2008 5:01 am

Really ironman? You really think there wasnt anything wrong with the way he acted? He was completely out of line. It's not about being popular or just getting your opponent off their game. He was rude, disrespectful, showed no class or poker etiquette. He completely went overboard.

And I dont follow clans here. But if you are some sort of leader in yours, I hope your members dont agree with your view.

cracker29 Aug 20, 2008 5:01 am
i agree with ironman he got that kid off his game anf schooled him on poker and won
RockstarPoker Aug 20, 2008 5:04 am

Yes he won, but showed no class.

My point was about it being a memorium to Chip and the way Scotty behaved, was completely uncalled for.

Baseball_Tim Aug 20, 2008 5:07 am
hes definetly playing to win by trying to dump chips to erick so demichele finishes 3rd... that was so freakin obvious in that hand... if it takes acting like a completely terrible person to win, i think i'll pass...
jhugs5555 Aug 20, 2008 5:20 am

He was a total jerk and like others here I used to like him. Men the Master has a reputation for being a drunk and so does that guy Jim something that wears the old hat. Scotty you lost me and others who appreciated what you did for your country (Vietnam) and the game.

Like Kevin Spacey said about Kisar Soucey (misspelled) in the movie Usual Suspects "puff and just like that he's gone". Well Scotty as for a lot of your fans "puff and just like that we are gone.

KevGuy Aug 20, 2008 5:28 am
I totally missed this whole thingamajig that happened. I hate the way these T.V. shows portray poker players as heroes and celebrities. Now a normally nice guy Scotty N. has the reputation similar to Mel Gibson; once loved now hated by many, which is terrible... Oh well, all that money should cheer him up
niccollette Aug 20, 2008 5:29 am
he was steamng and drunk, bad combo. i think the tourney director should have stepped in. did they get rid of time outs for cussing?
skittles Aug 20, 2008 5:35 am

Does this really come as that big of a suprise to you? I have been watching for some time. It seems that every time I have seen Nguyen, he has drank more and more, and become louder and more obnoxious at each event.

I had pretty much written it off as my finding him annoying, but now I see that it wasn't just my imagination.

RockstarPoker Aug 20, 2008 5:44 am

Yeah you see him drinking most the time on tv. But I have never seen him act like this before. You see him and he is cracking jokes, making fun of ppl, but never over the line in any way. However he was just over the line disrespectful at this table. I dont think he was steaming that much, considering he was chip leader at the time.

And yes, he was pretty much trying to chip dump to Erick.

And you can say the f word now if it isn't directed toward someone. If you direct it toward someone, it can be a penalty or just a warning. Up to the trny director's disgression.

yep i am suprised
