Limit question

Aug 18, 2008 9:44 pm Report Abuse

This question specifically relates to low limit poker (or against donks)

Pocket Aces we all know is a power house and can be played very strongly in No limit. We all know its 'just' a pair so when playing limit I would expect the right play would be to raise (unless trying to entice a bet from an aggressive player). So my question is this, your likely to see all 5 cards in limit especially low limits (its just from my limited experience) thus AA loses its power as you can't bet people out to protect the made hand. Ive had to make that last call on the river knowing I was beat a couple of times. Are you better playing drawing cards (67 suited/j10) and keep you cool with big pairs and hope you trip up?

Many Thanks
Ipso

ya limit can be a Very big pain..i was in that scenerio so mnay times..when i knew my aces are beat but still called...has you cannot bet them off there draws... usually when the stakes go up you start to be able to bet ppl off there draws..but in the lows stakes j10 and 67 are good hands to play..but ya my thought is that limit Sucks ....Carloss

AA is still going to win at least every third time if everyone else stays in. Raise reraise and raise some more with it pre and post flop. You can slow down on ridiculous flops or when you thin out the field. Otherwise don't slow down unless it's obvious you're beat. Generally if you make it to the river heads up it's worth a check-call no matter what the board reads.

Any single pair is usually no good in limit, and suited connectors are the hands that bust Aces, play them all, just don't get too much in the pot, if all you have is 1 pair !

.....play on ....Tc.....

I think in limit you want to play big pairs a little differently pre flop than you would in no limit or pot limit. I think the best way to thin the field in limit is to limp reraise with AA or KK. That's just my opinion though.

I love limit , you can make a lot there , people do get hung up

on one pair no matter what the board is and that's a

mistake ,drawing hands do work very well , suited connectors

are great to see a flop with , you do have to bet your big pairs

though but don't get overly attached to them on a bad board ,

it will cost you , limit is great because a lot of people will

chase all the way to the river because to them it's just one

more bet , and they will usually call the river too , it reminds me

of omaha when someone is betting their AA or KK all the way

and there is a flush or straight draw or a set on the board , gl

This actually depends on the blinds. If it's early and the blinds are low, then I will become a calling station and see what develops. If there's a lot of betting going on and I don't improve my hand, I will definitely fold. When the blinds are much larger, then I will play A-A aggressively to try and take the pot immediately or to reduce the field to heads up competition.

Not even in same league as other commenters... or you for that matter... but...

I do like limit...
I'll see as many flops as I can on any pair... push if I hit... and may stay in if flop has a pair.

I'll push big pairs if I'm late and there's only a few limpers...

But like I say... I don't know very much, and am learning...

I love these kinds of blogs!!!

Limit is a game where "reading" the other players is a must. After the flop your big pair becomes a liability to a scarey board if you don't have the strenght to fold it. In low limits because so many players are going to the wall with their drawing hands and the river card may make you a set or two pair but someone else their str8 or flush.

I tend to see "less" flops in Limit because I don't want to be sucked in to chasing and chasing is the rule instead of the exception in that game.

Your opportunity to make really good money IMO is greater in Limit, but you also stand a chance of losing more than you would in NLHE. Learn to read at least the two strongest and two weakest players at the table. I would not even be embarassed to take a little note pad to the table for the first few sessions until you can develop a mental note taking system. That will increase your odds of cashing out with a profit.

Been outdrawn several times, I slow play them calling or betting when no one else does, If I hit the trips I bet them up. the lower the limits the more people try to run down cards.
