The REAL Wombli.........................

Aug 18, 2008 6:19 pm Report Abuse

A little about the REAL Wombli....."Eagle" in Lakota Sioux... his full name was Little Eagle...

I decided to put this out because I do get asked frequently "Where did the name wombli come from?"....

For those of you that do not know.... Wombli was my dog and my best friend in the whole world! He was a rottie that I rescued after he was abandoned in a house for more than 2 weeks. He was 4 months old... He was timid and scared..... but he fit right in (and took over my heart immediately). I had Buddy and Jewels at the time..... both dogs I had also rescued and he was just happy to go along with them and hang out and play. Although he was much bigger and stronger than them... he was always a gentle baby... His nickname was "the baby". When he was 4 1/2 years old... he was diagnosed with canine lymphoma... and they told me he was given 2-4 months to live... I was/AM devastated. I started him on weekly chemo (selfishly) because I really didn't want to let him go. The chemo went on weekly for 15 months and I really enjoyed every minute I was able to have him here with me. He died in March of 2006 and I still have a hard time accepting that he is gone. He was beautiful inside and out... I miss him so much...

He will live on through me and all of you that know me as wombli777. He was a BEAUTIFUL SOUL!

Sounds like a true Lakota Soiux. Reverence, respect and companionship with the animals has always been a trait of the Native American Indian. I am proud to say I know many Lakotas (from the Wounded knee incident mostly but I grew up around some too. ) I am a member of the Chippewa-Cree out of Rocky Boy Reservation. So I feel I can say that with knowledge and foresight. I have a long history of Lakota Souix friends.

Good luck on the tables! Railbirds card: Kh

What a beautiful dog wombli.

You sound like me when it comes to your dog. Willing to do whatever it takes to keep him comfortable and to live as long as possible too. I had a Lab that lived to 14 and the last 5 years he needed meds. With them he was fine.Pain free and totally active. Cost me thousands but I will never regret spending the money. It was worth every penny. I lost him 2 1/2 years ago and think of him daily.I now have 2 chocolate labs that own my heart, but there will never be another Willy.

Sometimes compassion knows no bounds. You have proved this.

Wombli was such a beautiful dog! I am so sorry for your loss Michelle. After being abandoned you gave him a life full of love and happiness! He looks like he got treated like a king!

I'm so very sorry for your loss. When we find a special soul, it so hard to let go. Be happy in knowing that you were there for him when he needed you and his life was always better because of your love.

Definitely made cry. I miss my cat Raven Years after she passed on I still continue to have dreams about her. She was the best! A wonderful tribute this was for your very special Wombli

You definitely have my sympathy. I grew up with a husky as my "sissy" when my mom remarried when I was young and lost her when I was 18. The loss of a pet is way more than just the loss of a pet- it IS the loss of family. Enjoy your memories always
