Favorite Drummers

Aug 18, 2008 6:22 am Report Abuse

Yep, there was a blog about guitarist and bassists.......and now there's one about drummers. My personal fave is Vinnie Paul with Tommy Lee as a close second.

Some may be surprised that I didn't say Lars Ulrich. He's good, but not my favorite. I also forgot to mention Tico Torres (Bon Jovi) and Cody Hanson (Hinder). I know Cody is new....but I've seen Hinder play live 3 times and that boy is so talented! He did a drum solo that just blew my mind!

my all time fave is buddy miles.............miles_buddy_themchang_101b.jpg BUDDY MILES image by lynnestwins

Did an awesome cover of Neil Young's "Down By the River " at a concert at Winterland in SF in 1972. Broke all his sticks and finished with just his hands.

Drummers knew this would come

Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) 12 years in row best prog drummer

Neil Peart (Rush)

Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree) finally dethroned Portnoy for best prog drummer in Modern Drummer Magazine for 2007

Terry Bozio (Frank Zappa)

Pat Mastolenneto (KIng Crimson)

Brian Viglione (The Dresden Dolls) Does so much with so little)

Nick D'Virgillio (Spock's Beard)

My last comment of the night. I would have to say Buddy Rich

Carl Palmer of Emerson Lake and Palmer does things with a drum set that no one else has even came close to equaling. He is a true composer, musician, and entertainer. If you haven't really listened to him I suggest getting a hold of "Brain Salad Surgery" or better yet "ELP works Vol 1"

But for pure rock and roll I go with Joey Kramer of Aerosmith

Kennth from candira, of course vinny paul- the reason pantera is the best band that will ever exist, with the exception of their bass players, they had 3 geniuses in their band, and tomas haake from meshuggah. the best drummers of all time are in metal bands. metal has drums covered by a light year over any other style of music. no contest, no arguement, its a fact.

johnny faye the tragically hip only cause i've seen his shows tons of times and know the dude personally...other than that the dude who delivers my pizza
Codimis Aug 18, 2008 6:58 am

Codimis Aug 18, 2008 7:03 am
i must add that im assuming about 1% of all railirds listen to death metal. these drummers in death metal band know for a fact with a name like, screaming afterbirth or f&%$ im dead, and much worse which i will not mention, that they will get no recognition. great death metal drummers do things, especially with the bass drums, that is almost machine like. it is near impossible. metal rules drums.
