hi guys, i just read a magazine article about taking notes on players, and was interested to see if this would actually help your tourney, is this true?

Yes, it does help

If you have no notes on a player. You will fold to their bluffs, and call their huge hands.

I usually sit out the first hands of the final table to see how the players play and take notes on them.. it does help

GL on the felts

I have notes on a lot of people on both sites, especially the donks for future reference. In RB tournies I again have many notes on players especially the RMR tournies. I distinguish between tourney and ring games as well. Nothing better to sit down at a table when you have a notes on a player or players at a table. It makes things a lot easier reading players online. On FT there is the sweet little color type too which makes it even easier to indentify the player and how they play.

hmmm never thought of taking notes. the only thing that I have done in the past is assign certain colors to a player based on if he has an extreme playing style......for instance if he's super tight I'll give him whatever color like....green. And if he is loose agressive i'll give him red.

I always take notes! i keep officialpokerrankings.com open also and look up a players stats as well and make them a part of my notes. I have been doing it so long, I now rarely go into a game on PS where I dont have notes on some of the players. It does help.

I have very extensive notes as well (I'm always taking notes,.. and also have other programs open.. similiar to jhugs above). I'd guesstimate that I've got notes on at least a few thousand players on Fulltilt and maybe 1,000 on Doyles and about the same on Stars (maybe alot more than that on Fulltilt?).

I've got a fairly complicated system for using, making use of Fulltilt s colour codes,.. actually use every single one of their colours to aid in classifying particular playing styles for future reference (ie. TAG.. LAG.. tight mouse... Loose calling station... pass/agg... agg/pass.. pass/pass.. Loose pass/pass, loose Maniac.. etc., lol). Might sound complicated but becomes second nature. Rare is it now that I hit an MTT table without seeing notes on at least a couple of players and even more in ring games at a particular buy-in level.

notes.. notes.. .notes... does it help my tourney??.... how couldn't it?? My play is geared towards the type of player I'm in a hand with (or stealing blinds from, etc.).

Besides giving you future reference material, it gives you something to do between good hands, and therefore makes it eaiser to be patient, and wait for them !

.....play on ....Tc.....

Notes are an integral part of a winning player's repertoire. Pay attention to what amounts they raise to and with what hands if they get to showdown. Do they bet the pot size with good hands and/or bad hands?Do they do contbets or give up if they miss? Are they trying to squeeze into the payouts or are they playing aggressive for final table money? etc.
