JRA3141 Jul 22, 2008 2:25 am
also if this is a 9 person sit and go u didnt bubble you were out at 5 not 4
p0ker_j0ker Jul 22, 2008 2:25 am
only thing i can say is some people feel that if they have an all in out chiped they can make a call with questionable hand because
(1) if they win the hand its moves them up the money ladder-knocking some one out of the tourny
(2) alot of the time players with small stacks at this point in the tourny are desperate and are pushing any hand( so he didnt give you credit for a pair and figured he had 2 live cards)

with that said i dont think there is really any justification for his call he was also a short stack and probably shouldnt have even called preflop with that hand. You got your money in with the best of it and just got unlucky man im sorry but to be honest thats exactly the hand that you wanted to call you

You weren't bubbled at all. Also, if you always get your money in pre-flop with A-j, you will continue to get killed at the tables, no matter what your opponents have at any given time.

First its a 18 man sng, and sec, why even Limp with J8? J8 sucks...

calls like this have probably cost me hundreds of dollars in the online poker world. Usually i have more then A hi in this situation, and still some how lose with 80% odds or better after the flop. sometimes its like they know whats gonna happen... the last two just major ones that pissed me off, i watched the people play afterward. they were both mtts with over one with 600 people, one with 1300. Both of them took 1ST PLACE. the way the played absolutly nothing to the river reraising all the way with nothing. until the river made the hand with a runnuer runner flush or paired board into a 2 outer full house. calling and all in with A J hi while i have AK with 2 flush cards on the flop and on the river hitting the J that wasnt a spade....they both took 1st place. one would sit out ever 10 min or so for about 5 minutes, then come back and destroy people with junk, then sit out again. tell me that is normal.

I'm not a big J 8 fan mate. Ur hand should've won that hands down
nevadanick Jul 22, 2008 2:40 am

I wouldn't do it, but we see it all the time online. OTOH, AJ is not a guaranteed winner and you were short-stacked. Villain was next short stack, and he had you covered almost 3:1 and had 200 in the pot already.

C'mon, after all, all you had was an A with a decent kicker. You both had nothing going in, he hit his nothing, you didn't.

Everyone else had folded. There doesn't need to be a justification. You were willing to bet the farm, he was willing to bet a part of his. Heads up you were only a slight favorite. I think most would say that you want a caller like that, but there are times they hit. This was one of them.

GL next time you bet the farm before seeing any cards on the board.

bwarlitner Jul 22, 2008 2:40 am

i don't think his play is wonderful but it is certainly justifiable. the limping with J8... mehhh. but the call is pretty standard i suppose. i'd almost consider calling your raise with ATC just because of pot odds (almost).

whoever bashed your preflop raise with AJ is ignorant, because that was 100% the move to make in this spot. you just got really unlucky here.

DSPITTLES Jul 22, 2008 2:43 am
Good play, got unlucky, AJ 5 handed is a strong hand, and with 8 BB left and the blinds soon to hit you you made the correct play.

More often than not, the same play will double you up and put you right back in contention, but not more often by much... just remember that if anyone calls with ANY 2 cards that don't include an A or J, your odds will be no better than around 60/40...so if youre comfortable with these odds, then just stick to the same game plan and next time hope it turns out differently.
Dricky Jul 22, 2008 2:43 am
Yeah, my AKos as a small stack just got taken out by Q9suited, once I saw his cards I just had that bad feeling that he was gonna catch and sure enough first card Queen.
DSPITTLES Jul 22, 2008 2:45 am
Oh, forgot to add, even when they call with a dominated hand, youre still going to lose SOMETIMES... and this was obviously one of those times, sucks but it happens

sometimes people ONLY think about their winning percentage on hands, and not the losing percentage, the losing percentage has to happen sometimes, or it wouldnt be there...
