He had 2.5-1 pot odds.. f
(1) if they win the hand its moves them up the money ladder-knocking some one out of the tourny
(2) alot of the time players with small stacks at this point in the tourny are desperate and are pushing any hand( so he didnt give you credit for a pair and figured he had 2 live cards)
with that said i dont think there is really any justification for his call he was also a short stack and probably shouldnt have even called preflop with that hand. You got your money in with the best of it and just got unlucky man im sorry but to be honest thats exactly the hand that you wanted to call you
I wouldn't do it, but we see it all the time online. OTOH, AJ is not a guaranteed winner and you were short-stacked. Villain was next short stack, and he had you covered almost 3:1 and had 200 in the pot already.
C'mon, after all, all you had was an A with a decent kicker. You both had nothing going in, he hit his nothing, you didn't.
Everyone else had folded. There doesn't need to be a justification. You were willing to bet the farm, he was willing to bet a part of his. Heads up you were only a slight favorite. I think most would say that you want a caller like that, but there are times they hit. This was one of them.
GL next time you bet the farm before seeing any cards on the board.
i don't think his play is wonderful but it is certainly justifiable. the limping with J8... mehhh. but the call is pretty standard i suppose. i'd almost consider calling your raise with ATC just because of pot odds (almost).
whoever bashed your preflop raise with AJ is ignorant, because that was 100% the move to make in this spot. you just got really unlucky here.
More often than not, the same play will double you up and put you right back in contention, but not more often by much... just remember that if anyone calls with ANY 2 cards that don't include an A or J, your odds will be no better than around 60/40...so if youre comfortable with these odds, then just stick to the same game plan and next time hope it turns out differently.
sometimes people ONLY think about their winning percentage on hands, and not the losing percentage, the losing percentage has to happen sometimes, or it wouldnt be there...
