So You Want to Know What Railbirds Does for Me.

Jul 20, 2008 11:18 pm Report Abuse

I am a 63 year old son. I have a 90 year old Mother living with me.

This is a time in my life when I should be enjoying my retirement driving around this great county, the USA, and seeing it. Something I have always wanted to do.

The situation with my Mom, which is the greatest Mom anybody could ever ask for, makes it impossible to leave the house for even a half hour. Railbirds allows me to maintain my sanity while waiting on her night and day. I can sit here on the computer, play poker, get to know fellow railbirds, and tend to her needs all at the same time.

I am not complaining about doing this. After all she took care of me for many years while I was growing up, often doing without herself because she saw to it that use kids had cloths on our back and plenty of beans and taters in our bellies. It's just that railbirds is here for me whenever I need to get things off of my chest or to take my mind off of other things.

Thank You Railbirds.

I applaud you ButtonDog. Not a day goes by that I don't wish my mom were still alive. You'll have plenty of time for yourself after she's gone. You definitely need to look into Hospice though. A friend whose wife has Alzheimers gets relief a couple times a week so he can get out. Worth looking into for sure. You rock! Take care!

Thanks everybody. It really isn't bad. She does like to get out of the house. There are now 13 casino's in NE, Oklahoma. Every one of them has a seniors day and men's and womens nights. I take Mom around to the casino's for the seniors day and we collect our $5.00 a piece to play the slots. We have to play the $5.00 on our cards, but get to keep what we win from the $5.00. We usually get enough to buy our lunch while we're out. This keeps her healthy while at the same time getting us away from the house for a couple of hours each day. We do this Monday through Thursday. With the local casino alternating mens and womens nights on each of those nights we get to go there for supper.

God Bless Old People.
