Being A Railbird has…….Taught Me How to Play Poker Properly
I first started playing online poker two years ago. I felt I was an average player, even a good player on some levels. I would play the freerolls with 12000 people and never win. In my frustration I turned to $4.00 SNG’s. I placed ITM in some, however paying always more than I won. I thought it was normal for people to pay money to play. Boy, I was wrong on so many levels.
Then one night I met a Railbird. He told me that there was a website with a group of people who gathered there to tell stories and offer tips on how to play poker. I thought mmmm….maybe I’ll look it up. I have to say it was by far the best recommendation someone has ever given me. On the other hand I was in for a rude awakening. I wasn’t this average player that I thought I was. If anything I was 10% player and 90% lucky. I was an all in and pray player. I was an impatient player.
I became a member and began reading blogs. I could not stop. The information was Honest. I needed a change. I needed to learn how to play poker. I learned about pot odds, playing your position and of course, “To know when to hold’um and know when to fold’um” lol.
These were all new things to me. I thought A7 was a good hand with six other players holding cards. I had to learn patience at the tables. I started working on being a better player. The friends I have made here are encouraging, insightful and always ready to answer any problem I might have. There are no strangers here. Their weeeeeeeeee for me when I win or their aweeeeeeeeeeeeee for me when I lose speaks volumes for my confidence as a poker player.
I learned that if I couldn’t place in a freeroll then I shouldn’t be making any kind of deposit. I learned that I personally shouldn’t pay to play. I learned to muck A7 and slow play AA. I learned to stop chasing straights and to fold often. I learned to rail for a bird if the call was sent out. We are all here to be helpful and supportive of each other.
I recently made a final table at a buy in tourney. I placed 7th out of 1200 players. I earned that win. That is outstanding I think. That proves to me that I have become a better player.
I have been a member of Railbirds for four months. I aspire to be one of the top 100 players on our site. I know I can do it now. Railbirds with all its members has taught me how to play poker properly and win. I have a lot to learn, however, this site is my gateway to the knowledge I need to become a great player.
Have a great day.
Railbird ranking 1183 and getting better everyday.

I understand what you are saying. I had the misfortune of hitting two royal flushes on the flop just a week apart. I bet it took me a year to learn not to play any two suited face cards, regardless of the bet after that.
Very nice Hope, i really enjoyed reading this blog. i believe you can achieve ur goal, just keep at it and play strong. Patience is the 1 word i love in ur blog, cause no matter how much u get blinded, it only takes 2-3 good hands in a row to be right back in the lead, cause every1 is gunning to get u out
