I have been pondering of late the meaning of ANZAC. For those who don't know it was the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps and probably apart from the similarity between the two countries why we have a fondness for each other. More so the meaning of the anzac spirit!
Not even the mateship of fighting side by side but the spirit that seems in the most part to be lacking in this country now! Having grown up in the 50's and 60's I can remember the way everyone was ever ready to lend a hand to anyone that was having trouble. Unlike now when we seem to just conveniently not hear about things.
We seem to be concerned with not being able to afford that bigger TV or a new car rather than saying to someone who has no where to sleep tonight "hey do you need a hand". I am not saying I am not guilty of being thoughtless no we are all human!
I was really sad when a friend in Anchorage told me she answers the door at night with a pistol in her hand, and hopefully we will never get to that stage here! I would like to think we can get back to where we once were when helping people was more important than being afraid of them!
I know I'm rambling but the kindness I have been shown by others since my illness became acute just brings it home to me; and I feel saddened by our loss of for want of a better word brotherhood in a time when we should have a stronger bond between each other. So just remember not all people are out to hurt you or rip you off and a helping hand just might save a life!!!

This is a good blog mate. I wish things would go back 2 that too but times have changed. There's so much fear generated by the media and it's buggered society now and it sucks
This is something I penned for my father in law, one the greatest men I have ever known!
The anzac spirit,
the diing breed.
That lived and died,
by a single creed.
To a helpless friend,
an outstretched hand.
Brothers in arms,
one united band.
To lend a hand,
to the lonesome man.
And lighten his load,
when you can.
This is the way,
life used to be.
For him and her,
and you and me.
But the past is gone,
and it seems forgot.
That once we were ,
a helpful lot.
In time it may come,
and come to pass.
That we all turn round,
and embrace the past.
For my father in law Stan the greatest friend I have had.
