Folding is a weapon....

Jul 17, 2008 9:31 pm Report Abuse

Folding appears to be a passive and defensive play to the naked eye but in reality it is the opposite. Every time a player folds a hand pre-flop, he eliminates the chance to lose money. Every time a player lays down a hand correctly when other players wouldn't have folded, he wins money. When a player folds pre-flop with a bad hand, he's not sitting out a hand but rather making the best play available to him. It's very unlikely that many people at the poker table, minus the professional, enjoy waiting for the right hand to get paid off. But at the same time, it's also very unlikely that anyone besides the professional is consistently winning money. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Tell me....you are using Fold as a weapon ?

I like your reasoning here. Really original thought, or way of putting it. Making great laydowns preflop is rare and hard.

The other day when playing heads up. I wasn't getting good cards, so i had to push and blufff a lot. I also folded a lot in the small blind to give the appearence that i only played good cards. at least that's what i was trying to portray, lol.

I do like that concept, word...I know a lot of 'experts' say that you are getting the odds to call in the SB, unless your opponent is really aggressive and always raises to your limp, but I like to fold a few of the worst ones to give more credit to my raises, and therefore allow me to steal more.

Well, I am naturally a tight-aggressive player, so for me to fold, is to begin building your table image. In the early stages of any good mtt, I fold, so that when I make it to the later stages, if I decide to throw in a bluff or two, people will give me respect based on my game play to that point.

I am a professional folder. LOL. I read in one poker book that folding gives the player the impression of a tight player. They will sometimes respect the raises you make out of position because you folded so much, giving a tight/aggressive impression. X

I believe that when playing online..it really doesn't help your image to fold. Of course you save money when not being an idiot and playing stupid as ***** hands. Most people lose there stacks by playing to many blinds than just missing or getting raised off a preflop. ANd actually...most pro's are aggressive/aggressive. So they are not consistently folding preflop. They are jsut doing what average to good players are doing...playing good hands. Know your starting hands,...and then know your position...and then know when to fold. It doesn't really take a genious to lay down A/5 preflop...or fold 6's when you get reraised preflop ..and if you actually play it..to fold when you get raised post flop with an A/K/9 o the board. Chasers usually lose in real games..and about a coin flip in online games. But to answer your question do I use folding as a weapon..NO! I use my skill as a weapon. I am not a donk who just bets and plays random shit just to play. So..I use my hands that I do play as a weapon..folding is not a weapon unless you fold good hands to maintain image. And in that case..the only weapon it is... is a weapon against yourself. But if you wanna wait all day and than play with a hand.. I know what to do everytime...FOLD.duh..means you gotta hand. And don't forget.... your playing online..There is no respect to your raises here.....that only happens in real life..or on the bubble.
