Are freerolls runing your game?

Jul 17, 2008 5:59 am Report Abuse

I think there comes a time when you need to leave freerolls because they form bad habits. The most obvious bad habit is over betting the pot. Example,

you are dealt Railbirds card: AsRailbirds card: Ac:. First mistake you bet big because you know if you bet 3xBB, 3 or 4 turkeys are going to call

2. the flop comes Railbirds card: AhRailbirds card: 6cRailbirds card: 9c. Now, you go ALL IN!!......because you are worried of the suck out. Chances are someone is going to call so you think, what the hell all in

Both of these are bad habits that can lead you to leaving a stack of money on thetable. Bad habits can be hard to break

I don't over bet in the freerolls at all. I also use them to try new things like working on playing the double belly busters and getting the most value out of them. The freerolls are a good place to work on refining your poker skill and learning to read players.

Sometimes it becomes necessary to break bad habits and I believe that the freerolls is a good place to practice breaking those bad habits.

The play money games are great for improving your skills as well. I see better play in the 10 and 100K play money tournaments than I do in the $10.00 real money online games.

Remember there are very few online games where the entry fee is as high as the lowest entry fee in a casino or card room. You can't get into one in a casino for less than $50.00, but online that is considered high stakes poker.

This may sound weird, but i barely think when in a freeroll until im itm. That way i dont pick up any poor habits.

I do see a lot of people who do go all in way too much in freerolls but I'm not one of them lol , I do still play them sometimes because I like to play around with different ideas and I like the patience they require with all the early flippers lol , gl

Im not saying freerolls are a bad thing. Just be mindful when you transition that you can get into over betting habits. In addition, they are horrible for trying to learn bluffing strategies because they call you down "just to see"

If you raise your aces and they reraise, going all-in is never a mistake. I think the initial pot sized bet, followed by all-in reraise is the right play. You are right about aces. You will either lose a big pot or win a small one most of the time.

That is true a little. I played Fr's a month straight and when I finally started to play $3 Sng's i tented to over bet the pot a lot pre flop and on the flop. However I never go all in or shit like that
