Basically I didn't put him on Q10 cause he called postflop, nor a pocket pair cause he called from late position. My best guess was along the lines of K8 or J8 suited...how bad did I play this?

the classic arguments are that " but they were sooooded!" But that hand was all draw city. neither were very good, but the best "bad" hand won. Nice catch is all

Well I limped 40 with a strong stack from Cutoff with KJ suited and one EP caller...was that bad? Button's move was kind of questionable, but then again pot odds + position...maybe I shouldve raised pre?

You didn't play it all that bad, just got unlucky. Might have been able to lay it down after his raise on the turn, but in a freeroll I'd probably call with top 2 and a healthy stack as well. That's the problem with so many players in an unraised pot, very difficult to put people on hands.

Calling his raise, should have thrown some red flags. One thing to remember about low buy ins or freerolls, very few players are tricky. Ask your question ( do I have the best hand? ) They WILL reraise you if they have you beat. Now, I'm not saying to fold to every reraise but most low stacks players dont lie. Bad outcome to hand, but consider these things next time the situation comes up

K-J suited from late position with no raises in front of you is worth a raise preflop .

Once the flop hits, bet out and take the smaller pot.

That is ONE strategy.

The second strategy is to slow play and risk someone catching up to you. Obviously, that's what happened here. You never made it too expensive for him to play and you got burned for it.

Pre-flop pot of 180. The big blind is sitting out so you've only 2 players behind you. I'd fold this hand because I play conservative tournament poker. Anyway say I'm playing a little looser then I'd come in with a limp. It's a weak hand but I kind of think of it as a drawing hand becasue I want to see a cheap flop with it. I like your call.

Post-flop pot of 180. You flop top pair. You bet 80. Too small. That flop is medium strength with a lot of drawing possiblites and also you to being outkicked. Maybe a bet of 150 would be better.

When you get one caller you have to think of the hands that give you action that would limp pre-flop in his position. AK/KQ/KJ/KT/K9/JT/T9/98/T7/76/99/88. Those are the hands I would narrow down too.

When the turn brings a J, and he raises your half pot bet what hands fit the bets that he's made. KJ/98/K9/99/88/T7. Your only beating 36% of the range. Your not the the right price on the turn. I'd fold. I don't see why you'd call. If he checks the river he probs had two pair.

i probably check after the flop............also if you cant reraise red flag tim e....

You've gotta be careful about how much you commit to the pot with semi-strong hands like this. I'm not sure if any reasonable raise before the flop would have been enough to scare off your nemesis in this hand but I would have probably bumped it to about 120 since KJs is a better than average starting hand and if you manage to connect with the flop or pick up a flush draw, you're usually in good shape. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that you still got the same 2 callers for your bet of 120 and the BB folded. You make top pair on the flop with a decent kicker, you'd want to bet out about the size of the pot to see where you are. Anybody that just flat calls is more than likely on a draw, has some sort of 1 pair hand, or (worst case scenario) is trying to trap you with flopped set.

Your bet on the turn was good but the fact that he reraised you another 400 into a pot that you only had 240 committed to by that point should have been your cue to wave the white flag. I think your biggest mistake in the hand was limping in before the flop and letting your opponent see the flop for cheap with such a weak hand that does well in multi-way pots. Not only was limping a weak play, it also put more money into the pot making it all that more enticing for your opponent to call and try to hit something. I think a good rule of thumb would be to not go all-in or call an all-in from someone with a hand you didn't feel was worth a raise before the flop (unless you hit something ridiculous like a full boat, nut straight, quads, etc...)

I really need to cut down on the length of my comments... Anyways, hope that helped.
