I accept the fact that he flopped the nuts and he played it well in milking me. My question/complaint is why do some people chose to play such small pokcet pairs like they are group 1 cards?

At what level of play can I expect a Pot Raise or 3x or 5x the Big Blind raise to garner some respect and force marginal hands to have to consider if they are willing to take the chance with those cards?

Maybe my problem is that I play in relationship to blinds and the people who are taking money from me aren't capable of playing that way. They play in relationship to some other unkown factor: Their total bank roll, My chip stack compared to their chips stack, What consitlation the moon is currently in. I wish I could talk to these people and ask them to explain to my why they acted/played the way they did. What is their motivating factors. Do they use their brains or do they play on their gut. But the reality is that with out it being face to face I don't think I could get a truthful and rational responce to the question.

why play those small pairs? to stack someone with an over pair. small pp are great for cash games imo because they are easy to get away from if u miss and u can win a BIG pot if u flop a set(or boat).

This was a bet preflop of 5X the big blind, but it was also just a $1.75 to see it and fold on the flop if it misses them. That wasn't much in relationship to his total stack. When he called that bet on the flop it may have told you that the board had hit him. That was also a dangerous board on the turn to be risking everything you have.

Just try and remember that this is the internet and what people have deposited at the poker site is usually thought of as just play money and many of them don't ever expect to be making a withdrawal anyway.

I do better at limit hold'em on the internet. It does what you want to do and forces people to play in relationship to the blinds.

u had him dominated but i guess he figured that pocket 5's was worth 1.75 and he knew if he didnt hit thats all it would cost him and if he did then he would win big

"I wish I could talk to these people and ask them to explain to my why they acted/played the way they did." well you can ask me, cuz ive played many hands like this and will continue to do so. cash games especially i call preflop raises with small pp and if i dont hit, i am willing to throw it away. in this case $2.25 was a small price to pay for $80 pot. the bigger your hand the bigger the preflop raise should be, like if you have AA, the preflop raise should be such that your opponent wouldnt be comfortable calling, seeing the flop and getting out if they dont hit. if someones guna get lucky on you, at least you got them to commit while they were behind so that you are guna come out ahead in the long run by playing it that way.

I asked a guy tonight why he called my 5X bb with Ks2s and he said that the odds where in his favor. I had AA and the flop came As 6s 2d, turn was a blank and I bet big enough for him to fold on the turn. He called and got the spade on the river. No way you can get them off a hand when the odds where in his favor preflop. LOL. Don't ask questions if you don't won't a stupid answer right? X

This betting pattern is very typical when someone hits a small set. Check - call flop bet and raise/re-raise on the turn. As long as you start to recognize the betting patterns you'll start to save some money on the big pockets. I've learned this lesson same way you are learning it.

My new mantra is pay attention when they are telling you you are beat.
