If you play less hands do your odds go up or do they go down?

repeatly folding good cards wont increase your odds of winning if that is what your asking. Pay attention to the table you are at, who leaves it, who joins it. I think your question is a little open. hope this helps. GL 2 u

i am talking touny play here, i dont play ring games to much.
jayrod00123 Jul 11, 2008 10:23 pm
i guess what im asking is in general if you play fewer hands how likely are you to win? i know to win hands you have to play them but that doesnt make everyhand a playable one. So should you only choose premium hand and play those or are you good with limping in with not so hot hands and maybe getting lucky.

Whenever I see just around 15% of the flops I will usually win 75 to 80% of those I see. If I see 20 to 30% of the flops I will usually win around 45% of those I see. Better cards win most often.

First off, lemme warn you I am kind of a moron, but I still don't quite understand the question...

If I play one hand and win, and don't play again, does that mean the odds are in my favor since I won the only one I played, or against me for the next one?
I would have to think that your odds would go down the more hands you played. Are we talking a SnG with 9 players? A ring game? A tourney with 2000-5000 entrants? Lifetime stats? Sorry... still a little vague, inho

Sorry... ignore the last comment... was written as you posted your clarification, which answers my question.

I think the question is how many hands is a good amount to play in order to win a tourney. Such as what percentage of hands should you at least see the flop with.
Is it better to play 50 % of hands, 75 % of the hands, of 25 %.

I would say that it depends on the style of play at the table. If you can limp in to a number of hands for cheap than go you. If all off your players are very aggressive and raise pre flop it might be better to not play as many hands.

I myself hate limping into hands with small cards. I would prefer to play hands that are higher than 90 %.

Cant win hands when you dont see flops

Even with the clarification, it's still hard to answer. Table image comes into view here. Position is everything. Out of position play premium hands... closer to the button you can branch out with more creative cards. Bluffing has more value with position, and bluffs are an integral part of the game. Winning has to do with how you play your hands, whatever cards they may be. What kind of players are at your table? Tight little nits who only play the most premium hands? Calling stations with no fold buttons? Donks, fish, sharks? Eagles and Lions, maybe? In some cases there is value in playing more hands, in some there is less. It depends at every table you sit at, what kinds of opponents you have, what is your position relative to the different players? I don't think there is a way to answer this question, other than to say that it depends on too many factors each hand.

flops on the cheap are definitely worth playing. Also, don't forget to pay attention to position when you are playing and try not to overbet your hand. You'll be the next gus hanson in no time

I'll occassionally call with crap cards if I'm late in the hand but almost certainly not against raises or reraises. Playing only good cards works only if you get a lot of good cards, especially when the blinds and antes get up there. If your prettty sure you can get in for a BB (nothing is guaranteed but you can get a feel for the table) play that 9 6.
