So I survived a double up at one point because a nice fellow called my all in when I had AJs and he had A8o. I wanted to ask him, politely, why he chose to make the call. But tables were shuffled around before I had it typed out.
There are a few reasons I can think of that motivated him to call.
First - Trying to knock me out, which is a fair reason to call in this instance
Second - Is because of what the cards were he held, he felt compelled to play
Third - Maybe he was on tilt, but I highly doubt that
Fourth - He thought I was trying to steal
I'm sure there are more
As I though about it I realized that I know for a fact, because people have told me in no uncertain terms, that some people (at the live games I partake in) play otherwise junk cards because it is called suchandsuch or it is the blahblah hand or the (insert a hand name here of your choosing). That is their motivation, the most annoying of these offenders are "the banana hand (A6)" and "the computer hand (Q7)."
Here is the hand in question tonight:

Continuation of my waxing philisophic about poker and hand names hurting people play:
Is there a corrilation between people knowing that a hand is bad but choosing to play it because it has a catchy monicare? Would the name a hand affect your ability to choose smartly when to play or not play? Would a hand name affect me? I hope not. I personally hate all hands equally, cause they all burn you at some point in time.
I have not personal belief that this person that called me made a bad call because I do not know their personal reasoning or motivations in doing so. As I listed before there are some very viable reasons that someone would make that call with those two cards and I'm not trying to call into question there play. It was just the hand that reminded me of that name hand problem I face in face to face games.

It sucks when they sometimes suck out on you, but remember that you'll make more money then they will over the long run.
Just sucks when they knock you out of a tourney with crap that that!
He made a good call. He called because you were severely short-stacked and his ace-high was likely good against your range, and he had the chips to back his call.
However... if people honestly play hands only because they have cool names then these are the people I want at my table. That might be one of the dumber things I've heard in regards to poker.
