A Few Poker Hand Odds Questions

Jun 22, 2008 11:43 am Report Abuse

Just gonna ask the odds on a few hypothetical hands, not a quiz (lol) cause I'm not positive myself

What are the odds that if you are dealt A10 UTG, AJ AQ or AK will be dealt to another player who acts after you preflop?

What are the odds that if you are dealt JJ UTG another player acting after you will have QQ KK or AA?

What are the odds that if you are dealt J10 you will have an open-ended straight draw postflop?

If you are dealt suited cards preflop, what are the odds of you having a 4-flush postflop?

What are the odds of you hitting a set postflop...and what are the odds of someone else having a higher set (assuming you hold bottom set)?

What are the odds, holding 98 suited, that you hit either a straight or flush on the flop? 4-flush or open-ended draw?

If you have AA, what are the odds that postflop you will be drawing dead?

And finally, what are the formulas to determine all these odds?

Thanks so much...if you can answer half of these, and use the answers in your play, you are probably an excellent poker player (I hope to become one too!)

Any sites that can give me this info? Also, feel free to add your own questions?

On the AA drawing dead hand, assume they hold suited connectors.

hi henreiman,

first of all, u should ask this questions in forum. there it can be discussed and also be found much better. thanks.

definition:

Odds
Describes the proportion between the chances of winning a hand or losing it.

Pot Odds
Describes the proportion between our bet and the possible winnings(pot).

Outs
Cards which can improve our hand.

Indirecct Outs
Cards which not improve our hand but which also didn´t help our opponent.

Discounted Outs
Cards which improves our hand but also improve our opponents hand.

Here is a sheet which will cover most of ur questions.

Now talking about the furmulas u asked for...

first u have to know ( and forget as fast as possible ) is the formula for the chance u will get ur winning car on turn and/or river.

Railbird image uploaded: Jun 22, 2008 12:02 pm

The whole deck contains 52 cards. I know 5 cards. The 2 holecards I got dealed and the three community cards (flop).

52-2-3=47

How many people are playing didn´t interest. As long as I didn´t know their cards they didn´t count.

Outs is the number of cards which improves our hand. p(Outs) is the percentage for the case of winning.

why u should forget this as fast as possible? *lol because there is a thumbrule as well...

Plausibility on TURN

Railbird image uploaded: Jun 22, 2008 12:03 pm

If we have more than 8 outs we have to add 1%.

Plausibility on RIVER

Railbird image uploaded: Jun 22, 2008 12:03 pm

If we have more than 8 Outs we have to subtract 1%.

Now we have a look on the Odds.

How to calculate Odds. Its pretty simple.

We only count the Outs which improves our hand. For example we have a flushdraw postflop. We have 2 hearts as holecards and 2 hearts on the board.

9 cards will improve our hand. 47 cards are left. so 38 cards didn´´t improve our hand.

The Odds are 38:9. we now cancel it through 9. the result is 4.2:1.

Know we have a short look at the Pot Odds.

U remember... Pot Odds describes the proportion between our bet and the possible winnings(pot).

For example. We have a pot of $5. Our opponent bets $1. Now we have a pot of $6. We have to bring in an amount of $1 for the possible win of $6. so the Pot Odds are 6:1.

Now we have to decide, sorry now we are able to decide if it will be a methematical correct call or should we fold...

Have a look at this...

Railbird image uploaded: Jun 22, 2008 12:02 pm

For example: If we have a chance(Odds) of hitting our flush 4.2:1, this means it happens one time on 4.2 tries, we need Pot Odds which are bigger than this. If we have to pay Pot Odds like 2:1 we have to win every second pot for become break even. With Odds of 4.2:1 this will become deficit...

I hope I could help and answer ur questions...

damn... this is why I hate to discuss questions like this in a blog...

ok. read the sheet above carefully to be sure u understand it!

for example. first row. AA or KK preflop Odd is 1 in 111. U have to know that it is not meant like AA preflop is 1 in 111 or KK preflop is 1 in 111. It is meant exactly as written AA or KK preflop. the negativ odd of any dealt holecards is 1 in 221, for AA as well as for KK.
