What's your strategy?

I'm always torn between sitting tight and playing premium for hours while having to wait until I actually get one. OR trying to actually just use my instincts and play looser, even though I'd be risking losing some pots. Online, I definitely play tight/aggressive, but live I think it should be different. But I really could use some advice. Thanks!

Wish I was good enough to give you dvice!. me - I try to play tight but I also read an article by Andy Bloch (who's that? LOL) on FTP where he stated that if you play only premium hands you will never win a tournament. I would tend to think he has some basis for his statement.

You just don't get enough of them on an average to win. there was more about when and how long etc. sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Good luck on the tables! Railbirds card: Kh

I generally allow my cat to determine the hands I play. Two meows.. its all in. One tail swish.... fold. 2 tail swishes... pot bet. Purr... min bet but raise if tempted. Scratch on the hand.... bluff. Last night he wanted me to brush him. Not sure what that means yet, but i'll tell you when i figure it out.

Playing live is the true test of a players ability ! The simplest strategy that offers sucess is this : Play opposite of the table ! If it is a tight table, play loose, if it is a loose table, play tight. If there is a combination, play the loose players tight, and the tight players loose ! Whatever you do, switch up often enough to not be predictable !

...........play on .......Tc........

I think Topcat's points are on the mark with one exception: live vs online. Many of the major players and writers, including Daniel Negraneau and Ed Miller, categorically state that online is tougher.

In "Hold 'Em for Advanced Players" David Sklansky makes exactly the points TC is making. If everyone is playing pretty much one way, your best chance to make money is to play opposite that style. Unfortunately, tables tend to shift from one style to another or are a constant mixture, so you need good reads on players and you MUST pay attention. That means no multi-tabling to start, no web surfing etc.
