Do you fold here?

Do you fold here?
It's still early in the tourney (bout 35 minutes in), and I am still confident I can build my stack.

The precursor to this is the hand before where I raised from an early position as well, with AA that time. Frankly I'm not ready to flip a coin for my tourney just yet.

I think probably a good fold ... but not in retrospect of the hand that won. The all in of 1890 by Boosh would have made me think of higher pkt pair than JJ. At least you were still in the game with chips. Boosh out with his overplay of K A
bwarlitner Apr 4, 2008 3:50 am
blinds are still small. you raise, and the small blind calls - he's gonna be out of position to you the entire hand, so it takes a pretty decent hand to call here. when the big blind pushes after UTG limps, UTG+1 limps, you raise, and the small blind smooth calls, i'm putting him on a monster like AA or KK. i think folding was the smartest thing to do, as you still had a player to act behind you who had shown signs of strength earlier in the hand. just happened to be two idiots going at it with mediocre hands, but don't get upset at yourself. with small blinds and a decent stack, folding is an easy decision here. good laydown, most players wouldn't have made it.

i wouldve went with my gut instint man, thats a very tough fold early in a tourney even if its for your life, keep us updated on how you finish man ?

gl 2 u

cheers

curtinsea Apr 4, 2008 3:52 am

no harm in folding, he could have A-junk and outdraw you, or QQ or KK or AA, it is only level III

wjm03e Apr 4, 2008 3:53 am
I'm folding that 9 times out of 10
Kryptonite07 Apr 4, 2008 3:59 am

I think good fold. As you said its early you can build a stack still. JJ is a tough hand to decide how strong to play for me at times. Good luck the rest of the way

Cheers Krypto

i think you made a good fold even though it sucks to see that you would have won but that is the way poker is and in the end i think you played it right and keep playing well and you will be paid in the end gl

First Break, still hanging tough
RichardT Apr 4, 2008 4:29 am
IN my opinion this is where paying attn to some1's table image comes into play, if the guy has put his chips all in more than few times already I'd probably call...But like what was aforementioned, it's still a coin flip..He had 2 overs....Sometimes a bigger risk equals a bigger reward (or loss)
tripps747 Apr 4, 2008 4:31 am
tough call myself i wouldv put the winner on ka trying to steal the blinds so i wouldve called but that was a great fold jacks are always tough to pllay keep up the great work

That all-in doesn't feel like AA's or KK's, so you can assume that you are starting out ahead. But with a player behind you, you never know what he may do. Though he did only call your initial raise, so you can probably assume you are ahead of him as well.

So from the action, you may be able to assume that you have the best hand pre-flop. But you will most likely be up against 2 over-cards, so at best it's a coin flip.

Going back to your original starting chip stack at this point is not too costly. But it sure sucks when you see the end result.

I think it is the right play. A tough lay down though.

I fold that too. You felt confident you could build your chips so why risk your tourney life on this one hand? Even if he's totally bluffing, why risk a suck out?

Playing online you could have just gone all in.

The weird thing is if online poker randomizers are anything like video poker randomizer, the cards to be dealt are continuously shuffling so that if online the quarter second delay you do between calling and folding could mean that the whole flop, turn and river would be different. Thats just the way it is in video poker they might use preset random patterns online.

from what I know FT utilizes a constant shuffle, whereas I believe pokerstars has it so the deck is set at the beginning of a hand. but i do not know the math on it.
