Pokerchix Where is the dollar?

Ok, so the way I figure this. Pokerchix is to blame. That stinkin quiz has ruined me. Well not quite ruined but sure has wasted my time and caused much internal suffering

So here ya go Chix, riddle me this.....................

3 men on a trip stop at a hotel. The room is $30 and they each pay $10. The hotel manager decides since the three men are such good customers he will give them back $5. He gives the $5 to the bellhop and instructs him to give it back to the men. The bellhop confused as how to split the $5 equally keeps $2 and gives each man $1.

How much did each man pay for the room?

Each man receiving $1 back has paid $9 for the room.

$9 x 3 = $27

$27 + the $2 the bellhop stole = $29
